2. Introduction
Reisine reported the need for a
comprehensive approach to study the social &
psychological impact of oral disease in the
1980s
Growing recognition of the importance of QOL
in the dentistry
The number of articles published between
2000 & 2004 was three times higher than that
between 1990 & 1994.
3. Materials & Methods
Part of the review project for “Oral Health &
General Health”
“Medline””,”EMBASE”,”Cocrane Library”,”Up
to Date & Japana Centra Revuo Medicina”
8. Results
3.Quantitative research synthesis & qualitative
analysis
(1)TMDs indicated that they were highly associated
with reduced health-related QOL (21)
(2)Tooth loss in type 2 diabetes subjects & poor oral
status were associated with reduction in health-
related QOL(24,25)
(3)Dissatisfaction with the teeth & mouth , and a
sensation of dry mouth contributed to a reduction
in health-related QOL(24)
(4)Edentulous jaws, periodontal disease &
increased dental caries were not correlated with
ealth-related QOL(27)
9. Discussion
A lack of evidence concerning the association
between oral health & health-related QOL
implies that a lack of suitable instruments for
measuring oral health has impeded research
progress
