EVALUATION By Bethany Rowson
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? Main picture shows the main article band “Acrylic Kiss”. The masthead is fun and relates to the title “LOUD!” “Free” always catches the audiences eye as everybody wants something for free. I used the word “must” to show that they need to know about this information. I used the colour scheme, purple, white and black. “Plus” is an emotive word which attracts the audience. The text changes from black to white
Same writing as the masthead I used the cover band as the main photograph. The headers make it easier for the audience Eye-catching Young and fun.
How does your media product represent particular social groups? The social group my magazine attracts is young, pop/rock. The bands I have used also show it for a younger audience as the members of the band are young and the layout of my magazine is fun.
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
Who would be the audience for your media product? How did you attract / address your audience?
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? Using Photoshop was the biggest difficulty for me as I have not used it very much in the past.
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Editor's Notes

  1. Main picture shows the main article band “Acrylic Kiss”. The picture is directly in the middle with the main member of the band at the front and the other members, soeven if you did not know the band you can tell she is the main member. The masthead is fun and relates to the title “LOUD!” With it being in capitals and having an exclamation mark. I put the masthead on the left hand side of the magazine as this is the part what you can recognise on a shop shelf.I used the word “must” to show that they need to know about this information. Rather than using “should” or “would like to”. The colour scheme I have used, purple white and black, fits the target audience as they are very rock-like colours, which is what genre my magazine is. The text changes from black to white as if it was all one colour it would look boring and a lot of writing and they would not want to read it. “Plus” is an emotive word which attracts the attention as if they are getting much more than they expected in the magazine.I put the free items on the left hand side of the magazine as you can see this is the shop, I also used the word “FREE” first, this is an emotive word as you always want something free with what you buy, so we want the audience to see this straight away.
  2. I used the same writing as the Masthead on the front cover for the contents so all the magazine matches and looks well presented. The headers make it easier for the audience to find what they are looking for in the magazine and also make it look well presented and professional. Stripes on the background make the magazine look young and fun, and adds colour to the plan background but not too much.I also put more pictures on so the contents page did not look like all writing and it was eye-catching and less boring.I used the cover band as the main picture in the contents showing that this was the main article, again I used a picture where the main member was at the front of the picture, to show she is the lead person in the band.
  3. The social group my magazine attracts is young, pop/rock. It shows this in the colours and fonts I have used in my magazine. I did my magazine for teenagers as I did it not too child-like, by using black and white, but I added purple so it was not too mature. The bands I have used also show it for a younger audience as the members of the band are young and the layout of my magazine is fun. The double page spread I did shows this as the layout is fun but also well organized.
  4. I used “kerrang!” magazine on my research as this is the kind of magazine I wanted to do. I used this one as it is a very famous magazine known for teenage rock lovers, so using this magazine as my research makes the audience see how I wanted my magazine to turn out.
  5. The audience for my magazine would be teenagers, who are interested in rock, rock/pop. By using Kerrang as my research I based their target audience the same as mine, as I wanted to do the same kind of magazine. My front cover shows this by the colour scheme I used in the front cover as I used mature colours such as black and white, but wanted to make it younger and less-boring so I added purple. I also used purple because I think it fits into the rock genre as well. I attracted the audience by the big picture and using emotive words such as “PLUS” and “FREE” so it would make them buy the magazine , also by using bright colours.
  6. I have learnt a lot from doing this project. Before this I had never used Photoshop before so I experienced doing this right from the very start. At first I found it difficult and could not grasp using the programme but after doing my research and practicing I began to enjoy using the software. I enjoyed getting my pictures for my magazine and learning how to do different angle and different effects on the camera. I liked doing this for my ancillary project anyway and I can tell the difference between them as I have learnt to do more with the technology.I had also never come across Blogger before this project and now know how to use this too. I find this very easy to use and useful when trying to store coursework.
  7. I have learnt a lot from doing this project, especially using the computers and learning how to do everything, also how much you have to put into a magazine and have to focus on every little bit that is on the page, as it looks easy to make one. My ancillary project is completely different to my final out come of my magazine as along the way I learnt to do so much more with my magazine. And I was not happy with the outcome of my ancillary so decided to change everything I did on it for my final design.
