Project 2 For this project, please pick either Option A or Option B. Write your answers to the following questions in Short Essay Format. Be sure to include reasons and facts as required to support your answers. Total length of response for this assignment needs to be a minimum of 2 full pages; maximum response is 3 pages.Use MS Word or its equivalent. Option A. Background: The “computer revolution” is here. The changes these machines are bringing to society are profound, if not revolutionary. Moreover, like many previous revolutions, the computer revolution is happening very quickly. The computer as defined today did not exist in 1950. Before World War II, the word computer meant a human being who worked at a desk with a calculating machine, or something built by a physics professor to solve a particular problem, used once or twice, and then retired to a basement storeroom. Modern computers - machines that do a wide variety of things, many having little to do with mathematics or physics - emerged after World War II from the work of a dozen or so individuals in England, Germany, and the United States. The "revolution," however one may define it, began only when their work became better known and appreciated. These perceptions, which lay behind the widely held belief that computers would never find more than a limited (though important) market in the industrialized world, came mainly from looking at the new invention strictly in the context of what it was replacing: calculating machines and their human operators. That context was what limited the pioneers' vision. Whenever a new technology is born, few see its ultimate place in society. The inventors of radio did not foresee its use for broadcasting entertainment, sports, and news; they saw it as a telegraph without wires. The early builders of automobiles did not see an age of "automobiles"; they saw a "horseless carriage." Likewise, the computer's inventors perceived its role in future society in terms of the functions it was specifically replacing in contemporary society. The predictions that they made about potential applications for the new invention had to come from the context of "computing" as they knew of. Though they recognized the electronic computer's novelty, they did not see how it would permit operations fundamentally different from those performed by human computers. Assignment:Your challenge is to imagine the dynamics of an emerging technology. First, pick a current emerging high technology trend (innovation, invention, or gadget) that would utilize some new application of knowledge or scientific discovery. Then discuss, using your own opinion, what the ultimate uses of that technology might be? How will the impact of that technology affect civilization and life as we know it? What differences will it make? How might the evolution of that technology change social, political, and economic conditions? What beneficial effects or harmful effects will result? Look ...

Cultural Heritage Unit 5 DB Name Class Date Professor Cultural Heritage By understanding collective cultural heritage and shared humanity across time and geographic place citizens understand their obligation to be better stewards of a global future. When citizens understand their cultural legacy they can preserve the culture and traditions associated with the legacy. For example Americans have a shared heritage that involves protecting the citizen’s fundamental right to life, liberty, and justice. Through the strides made in guaranteeing the citizen freedom through the American culture, citizens across the globe now recognize their right to freedom. This aspect of American culture will be preserved for future generations because it is an essential part of the American legacy. Being better stewards of a global future involves understanding and recognizing the aspects of the collective culture that benefit humanity and the aspects that can disappear. Preserving aspects of a culture is important to understanding humanities past as well as guising humanities future. When there is a better understanding of humanities cultural heritage, citizens from across the globe will have greater awareness of the different and unique cultures available in the world and be more accepting (Cole, 2011). When citizens are more accepting of other cultures lessons are learned from past behaviors good or bad. For example the world learned that the German Nazi culture did not work and was inhumane. This culture aspect was then rejected by the global society. Understanding cultural differences across time and throughout the world promotes diversity and a multicultural society which in turn promotes a world that has less discrimination and ignorance (Aworeni, 2012). When there is aspects of a society that work they can be embraced by future societies, such as democracy, but when their aspects of a culture that result in the inhumane conditions for citizens this behavior can be rejected by the global society. It is essential to safeguard our cultural heritage but it is also important to learn from the mistakes of past societies. Each culture should be preserved to ensure that unique societies exit in the world and to understand who we are and where we are going. References Aworeni, J. (2012). Why We Must Preserve Our Cultural Heritage. Retrieved April 20, 2013 from http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/tourism/51177-why-we-must-preserve-our-cultural Cole, S. (2011). The post-industrial society was born after the 1970s. There was a type of society that was no longer based on agricultural production, nor on industry, but on the production of information, services, symbols (semiotics) and aesthetics. The post-industrial society comes from a set of situations brought about by the advent of industry, such as increasing the average life of the population, technological development, the diffusion of schooling and the diffusion of the media. Post-industrial society differs greatly from industrial society, and this is clearly seen in the service sector, which today accounts for about 60% of the total labor force, rather than industry and agriculture combined, since intellectual work is very more frequent than manual work and creativity, more important than the simple execution of tasks.

Introduction The world is flat, hot and crowded, as Thomas Friedman says in his last book. Luckily, we can also say that it is getting more and more intelligent. Our world is increasingly interconnected and increasingly able to talk to us: people, systems and objects can communicate and interact with one another in completely new ways. Now we have the means to measure, hear and see instantaneously the state of all things. When all things, including processes and working methods, are intelligent, we will be able to respond to changing conditions with more speed and more focus, and make more precise forecasting which in turn will lead to optimization of future events. This ongoing transformation has given birth to the concept of Smart Cities, cities that are able to take action and improve the quality of life of their inhabitants, reconciling it with the needs of trades, factories, service industries and institutions by means of an innovative and pervasive use of digital technologies.

Building on the foundation laid by industry leaders Michelle Roby of Radiant Earth and Chris Holmes of Planet in the first webinar, this second part offers an in-depth look at the real-world application and behind-the-scenes dynamics of these cutting-edge formats. We will spotlight specific use-cases and workflows, showcasing their efficiency and relevance in practical scenarios. Discover the vast possibilities each format holds, highlighted through detailed discussions and demonstrations. Our expert speakers will dissect the key aspects and provide critical takeaways for effective use, ensuring attendees leave with a thorough understanding of how to apply these formats in their own projects. Elevate your understanding of how FME supports these cutting-edge technologies, enhancing your ability to manage, share, and analyze spatial data. Whether you’re building on knowledge from our initial session or are new to the serverless spatial data landscape, this webinar is your gateway to mastering cloud-native formats in your workflows.

Tracing the root cause of a performance issue requires a lot of patience, experience, and focus. It’s so hard that we sometimes attempt to guess by trying out tentative fixes, but that usually results in frustration, messy code, and a considerable waste of time and money. This talk explains how to correctly zoom in on a performance bottleneck using three levels of profiling: distributed tracing, metrics, and method profiling. After we learn to read the JVM profiler output as a flame graph, we explore a series of bottlenecks typical for backend systems, like connection/thread pool starvation, invisible aspects, blocking code, hot CPU methods, lock contention, and Virtual Thread pinning, and we learn to trace them even if they occur in library code you are not familiar with. Attend this talk and prepare for the performance issues that will eventually hit any successful system.
