Blink executed a one-question survey (i.e. “Have you ever had a package stolen that was delivered to your home?”) to obtain a better understanding of where package theft is most apparent in the U.S.
This data was weighted, to provide a representative look at the U.S. as a whole to determine where more/less package theft occurs. These findings were then utilized to create a color-coded heat map, highlighting which areas have the most package theft
2. Overview & Methodology
Blink, the leader in video-forward home
security, recently conducted a survey of
10,353 U.S. online adults to find out the
proportion of people who have had a
package stolen from their home
In order to determine where there was
an outsized representation, we took the
percentage of people who have had a
package stolen from their home on a
state level, then took into account the
size of the state compared to the total
population:
“Package theft
rate/population rate =
per capita theft rate
Or the rate of packages
being stolen compared to
the number of people in
that location

Package Stolen?”
4. Overview & Methodology
Blink’s survey found that where in the
country you lived factored heavily into if
you were going to fall victim to this
growing crime.
Surprisingly, on a per-capita basis, it
found that rural areas had a higher rate
of packages being stolen per population,
and the states with the highest rate of
package theft were North Dakota (26.2
times more likely), Vermont (16.43 times
more likely), Arkansas (8.28 times more
likely) and New Mexico (5.8 times more
likely)
