The document contains evaluations from students on various digital graphic tasks they completed, providing what they liked about their images and how they could improve. Students provided feedback on tasks involving shapes, gradients, rotoscoping, narratives, environments, and more. Many commented on using tools like the gradient and selection tools more effectively or adding more details.

I like the orange beak of the duck because it made the duck
look interesting.

I would have made the tail more fluffy to make it similar to the
original picture.
5. Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I liked using the gradient tool for the humming bird’s body and for my
background. I used the gradient tool both to overlay two colours and
also to get a gradual darker to lighter effect, which I find attractive and
pleasing.
I used pastel shades of colours that are opposites on the colour wheel
so they contrast but are still calming.
What would you improve if you did it again?
I would have enlarged the hibiscus’s petals and maybe if I had more
time, put in a stem with leaves.
7. Rotoscope
I liked Federer’s hair using the highlight and shadow because it was more
similar to the original picture and it made his hair look even.
I would have improved the highlights in his hair showing the different shades
of brown.

strength of character.

more effective.
22. Evaluation

What would you improve if you did it again?
I would have improved the coach by using brighter colours and
I would have outlined the drawing darker.
27. A Cinderella Story
I picked A Cinderella Story as my illustration because you can
understand the concept easily by the graphics.
This book is from Disney which shows children’s fairy tales.
The godmother changes the pumpkin into a coach and Cinderella’s cloth
rags into a magnificent ball gown. These fantasies make the child be in
awe and admiration of the main character.
The story has a powerful, visual imagery which would appeal to any
child.
This particular story is good for a mother-daughter to read together
because the illustrations would entice the child to want to hear/read the
story.
Illustrations are often used to convey the theme/mood of the story.

Dimensions
Eight pages are in the book overall. A5 is the size of the page.
Export Format
JPEG
Advantages:
o Most photographs and web images will be jpeg.
o Very universal- a recognised standard format that is used by everybody.
Disadvantages: It is not the highest quality image you can get because you can
lose information due to compression
35. Proposal
Story Overview
The mother duck lays eggs. All of them hatch, except for one. The
mother notices that this particular egg is bigger than the rest. When
the egg is finally cracked open, she is puzzled by the fact that this
UGLY creature is hers.
She compares and contrasts The Ugly Duckling to her beloved
ducklings. As a mother she is protective of this particular duckling,
as she sees him being shunned by the others.
The ugly duckling couldn’t cope with all these hardships, so he went
his own way. After a few months, you find out he has changed into a
beautiful swan.
His actions show how daring and hopeful he is, no matter the
circumstance. His change of heart and physical appearance has
allowed him to fly home to his mother.
36. Production Methods
The methods I am using are:
• Rotoscoping
• Shape warping
• Illustration
• Photography
Rotoscoping- I would use this method mostly because it helps to outline the
characters as well as the art style.
Shape warping-Helps to distort the image to make it look similar to the original
picture.
Illustration- To show the physical appearance and transformation of the ugly
duckling turned into a beautiful swan. It is best to draw and colour these visual
images by hand, because it helps to give a realistic effect to the reader.
Photography- I would use photography to help capture the animals. Then edit
the images in Photoshop. I would also pay special attention to the ducks’ faces
because it helps to convey the mood and theme .
37. Deadline

Audience
My story is for children aged 3-7. The reason I selected this age group for
my book is because the reader would be more drawn to the images and will
have some knowledge about animals in their environment. The Ugly Duckling
is for males and females.
There is a moral behind this story which allows adults to easily convey to
young children.
Reference audience appeal-The duckling is rejected by the other ducklings
because he is UGLY. Then he turns in to a beautiful swan and is finally
accepted by the other swans. Joy and acceptance is revealed in the end.
Throughout the book, emotional appeal is showed through images and
strong descriptive language.
This emotional appeal is more likely to attract a female audience but the fact
that the duckling is male, would help to attract a male audience.
38. What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work?
The strengths of the proposal is that it is very
informative and explains every detail. It gives you a
clear view of what you are going to use and why
you may us it.
In the production methods you could explain in
more detail about why you are using these certain
aspects. You could explain more about the story
and go into more depth. You could explain where
the audience will come from and what hobbies that
people reading the book are into.
What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been
further developed?
In the mood board you show a wide variety of types
of ducks you are going to use. You explain what
exactly you are going to use within the mind map.
In the mind map you have just stated what you are
going to use and not said any other possibilities.
39. What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work?
You have described well the different advantages
and disadvantages of the format that you are using.
Well done
I could not find a story overview.
What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been
further developed?
You have a clear understanding of the target
audience you are working with and what production
methods that you are using to create the story.
You could talk about whether the images you create
will follow a certain art style and whether that would
work with the target audience.
40. What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work?
Your proposal contains a very good, detailed look
into how you will achieve your book, and how
different methods could be used.
A brief look at the story of your book could be
added.
What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been
further developed?
The idea generation shows a good look into how
you will achieve your book, and what steps you
must take in order to do this.
More in-depth information could be added, such as,
why you picked the ugly duckling story.
41. Feedback Summary
Sum up your feedback.
The feedback I got was great overall. A few areas of my work can be developed
further. Example, mind map.
Which parts of your feedback do you agree with and why?
I agree with the feedback for the proposal mostly because I explained in detail.
I agree that I should do a story outline because I missed it.
I also agree that more information could be included about my choice of story.
Which parts of your feedback do you disagree with and why?
I disagree about the hobbies because that isn’t necessary.
42. Original Script
It is a beautiful summer day. The sun shines warmly on an old house near a
river. Behind the house a mother duck is sitting on ten eggs. "Tchick." One by
one all the eggs break open.
All except one. This one is the biggest egg of all.
Mother duck sits and sits on the big egg. At last it breaks open, "Tchick, tchick!"
Out jumps the last baby duck. It looks big and strong. It is grey and ugly.
The next day mother duck takes all her little ducks to the river. She jumps into it.
All her baby ducks jump in. The big ugly duckling jumps in too.
They all swim and play together. The ugly duckling swims better than all the
other ducklings.
- Quack, quack! Come with me to the farm yard! - says mother duck to her baby
ducks and they all follow her there.
43. Original Script
The farm yard is very noisy. The poor duckling is so unhappy there. The hens
peck him, the rooster flies at him, the ducks bite him, the farmer kicks him.
At last one day he runs away. He comes to a river. He sees many beautiful big
birds swimming there. Their feathers are so white, their necks so long, their
wings so pretty. The little duckling looks and looks at them. He wants to be with
them. He wants to stay and watch them. He knows they are swans. Oh, how he
wants to be beautiful like them.
Now it is winter. Everything is white with snow. The river is covered with ice. The
ugly duckling is very cold and unhappy.
Spring comes once again. The sun shines warmly. Everything is fresh and green.
One morning the ugly duckling sees the beautiful swans again. He knows them.
He wants so much to swim with them in the river. But he is afraid of them. He
wants to die. So he runs into the river. He looks into the water. There in the water
he sees a beautiful swan. It is he! He is no more an ugly duckling. He is a
beautiful white swan.
