The COVID-19 threat has changed businesses everywhere, it’s also affected us here at Brainmates, particularly our face-to-face courses.
We have been working rapidly to move the Essentials of Product Management course to shift it from being an “in person”, face-to-face course to a fully remote, real time, online experience.
We have already run this course with a full class of 16 people, who were distributed in multiple locations and the results were outstanding. We were delighted that they gave us an unprecedented Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 100. If you’re not familiar with NPS it basically means that every person who gave us feedback (10 out of 16 people) said they would definitely recommend the course to others. You can see the full feedback from that course and find out more about how we run it in this presentation.
The current government restrictions are likely to continue for at least a few months and we want to make sure that everyone who does one of our courses is safe and that we don’t contribute to the spread of COVID-19. So we are converting all May 2020 and June 2020 courses to the online remote, real time format.
To be clear, there will be no pre-recorded presentations. This will not be self-paced. The exercises that you will be doing, will be done with other participants in real time and your trainer will be with you every minute of every day. You will need to make your own lunch, but we can all gather to share stories in the virtual lunchroom.
What you will require is a stable internet connection for the video call. A comfortable chair that you can work from for 3 days and a willingness to learn about Product Management from us.
Along the way you will also learn and practice with online collaboration tools, you will meet new people and learn from them too.

2. At Brainmates, more than 2,500 people have
taken our flagship three-day Essentials of
Product Management since we launched it in
2010. The course gives people a thorough
knowledge of the Product lifecycle from idea
through to launch and equips them with
practical tools and frameworks to use in their
roles.
We have always delivered it face-to-face but
this all changed on 1st March 2020 as the
coronavirus stopped in-person workshops.
So we changed things. We’d been thinking
about moving online for some time, but wanted
to make sure we could keep the quality high.
We knew people loved our face-to-face course
(we have an average NPS of 70 since August
2018) but would they love online as much?

3. We needed to be able to deliver the same content in
the same thoroughly interactive and engaging way.
After researching different delivery methods and
interactive tools we settled on running it using mainly
Zoom video-conferencing and Miro boards.
Our trainer guides the participants every minute of the
day, as they would in a face-to-face course making
sure energy and engagement remains high make sure
everyone is participating.
Doing it this way means participants don’t need any
software subscriptions or special arrangements. And
they can access PDF images of their coursework
during and after.
So how did it go?
