2. Rationale For Technology Integration
• Why does it make sense to incorporate various uses of
technology into your particular topic?
We live in an ever changing society where children are constantly
surrounded by technology. There are many great resources on the
internet which will help teachers illustrate the concepts of counting
money to their students and show students how helpful technology
can be.
• What is gained by integrating technology into your teaching of
this topic?
This presentation provides great resources such as podcasts, blogs,
apps, and activities that will help both teachers and students interact
with the topic. Overall, students will see how beneficial technology
can be in improving their understanding of this mathematical
concept in an engaging and interactive way!

second grade unit. Her unit plan for money involves many interactive games and activities

unit on money such as how money is made. It also has

• This US government website provides educational activities
for teachers and students that enhance knowledge about US
currency. It also has a “Design Your own Bill” component
where students can create their own dollar bill.

This interactive math story from WatchKnowLearn.org can be used by the teacher in the classroom and is also fun and engaging for students. It incorporates math concepts into a story about farm animals. It pauses at the end of each page and the teacher can pause the video as well to allow the students to write down and solve the equations which generally involving counting coins and paying for objects. A parent can download this app for their child so they can practice counting different combinations of coins. It also has different levels of difficulty so the parent can challenge their student and have them try harder examples as they get better at this skill. This KWL chart was created on Kidspiration. Teachers will hand out this chart at the beginning of the unit and allow students to fill in the first and second box about what they already know about counting coins and what they want to learn. They can draw pictures illustrating their knowledge of what the worth of certain coins/ dollars are or anything that will help cue them into understanding the material. This will allow them to see everything in an organized way and will also allow the teacher to see it in an organized way for each student so they can get a better understanding of students prior knowledge and plan from there. It also allows them the option to include both words and visuals. After the unit is over, the students will fill in the last box and describe what they have learned about counting coins using words and visuals. The students and the teacher will make sure that they have answered everything that they wanted to learn.
