SYNOPSIS fOR FOUR WHEEL STEERING SYSTEM (MECHANICAL ENGG.)

  1. 1. G.L.BAJAJ INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY & MANAGEMENT, GREATER NOIDA DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING FINAL YEAR PROJECT REPORT BY NAME : - INDRAJEET KUMAR YADAV ROLL NO : - (0000000000) 1. GENERAL DESCRIPTION: TITLE OF THE PROJECT DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF FOUR-WHEEL STEERING SYSTEM TECHNOLOGY/TOOL USED FABRICATION & MACHINING / DESIGNING SOFTWARE (AUTO CAD, PRO - E ANALYSIS) ESTIMATED DURATION 6 MONTHS ESTIMATED BUDGET 20,000/- RS. NO OF TEAM MEMBERS 5 YOUR ROLE IN THE TEAM FABRICATION DEPARTMENT MECHANICAL ENGINEERING NAME OF GUIDE/S MR. MUKESH KUMAR AND MR. SUSHIL MADHESIYA
  2. 2. 2. ABSTRACT (IN APPX. 200 WORDS): Now a day’s most of the vehicles use the two wheel steering mechanism as their main handling system. But the efficiency of the two wheel steering vehicle is proven to be low compared to the four wheel steering vehicles. Four wheel steering system can be employed in some vehicles to improve steering response, increase vehicle stability while moving at certain speed, or to decrease turning radius at low speed. Four-wheel steering is a technologically, tremendous effort on the part of automotive design engineers to provide near-neutral steering. In situations like low speed cornering, vehicle parking and driving in city conditions with heavy traffic in tight spaces, high speed lane changing would be very difficult due to vehicle’s larger wheelbase and track width which brings high inertia and traction into consideration. Hence there is a requirement of a mechanism which result in less turning radius and it can be achieved by implementing four wheel steering mechanism instead of regular two wheel steering. Four-Wheel Steering System is not a new technology but has it not gained popularity over Two-Wheel Steering System even though experiments have proved that it has excellent maneuverability, high stability and it is a solution to over steer/under steer. If Four-Wheel Steering is a better replacement for age old Two-Wheel Steering. 3. WHAT ARE THE EXISTING SYSTEM/S IN THAT PARTICULAR DOMAIN THAT YOU HAVE SURVEYED (IN 500 WORDS): CONVENTIONAL STEERING SYSTEM Usually during the steering of the vehicle, only the front wheels are steered towards right or left according to the requirement and the rear wheels are followers of the front wheels in this system. Generally it required conventional rack & pinion gear system for turning of both front wheels.
  3. 3. 4. HOW IS YOUR PROJECT DIFFERENT FROM THE EXISTING SYSTEM (IN 500 WORDS): The purpose of this system is to significantly reduce the turning radius of the vehicle, thereby improving the performance of the vehicle during competition. Many factors were taken into account when designing this system. The foremost criteria of the design were the reduction of the turning radius. There are some points to describe my project different from existing system- 1. Superior cornering stability. 2. Improved steering responsiveness and precision. 3. High speed straight line stability. 4. Notable improvement in rapid lane changing maneuvers. 5. Relative wheel angles and their control. 6. Smaller turning radius and tight space maneuverability at low speed. 5. WHY HAVE YOU CHOSEN THE TOOL/TECHNOLOGY/LANGUAGE FOR DEVELOPING THIS PROJECT? (IN 500 WORDS): We chose Auto Cad and Pro E software for designing of project and for force analysis also. We are also using various machines like lath, welding, drilling etc. for assembling or machining purpose as required.
  4. 4. 6. WHAT ARE THE FUNCTIONAL & NON FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS OF YOUR PROJECT? (IN 500 WORDS): Functional Requirements- We required a work shop for machining of parts and assemble together to complete the project, welding shop also required for permanent joining of the parts. Non Functional Requirements - Industrial visit to any automobile industries may be required, study of material searched from sites and guidance of respected guides also required.
