4. Introduction
HDMI stands for ‘High Definition Multimedia Interface’
Transmitting DTV audio-visual signals from audio-visual sources to Television sets,
Projectors and other video displays
Carry high quality multi-channel audio data
All standard and high definition consumer electronics video formats
Content Protection Technology is made available by the use of HDCP (High-bandwidth
Digital Content Protection) system
Also carry control, status and data information in both directions
Video and Audio data is transmitted based on the TMDS (Transition Minimized Differential
Signaling) Protocol
Plug & Play through Hot-Plug detection

8. Operating Modes
The HDMI Link Operates in one of the three modes.
Video Data Period:
Active Pixels of an Active Video line are transmitted.
Data Island Period:
Audio and Auxiliary Data are transmitted using a series of packets.
Control Period:
Transmitted between any two periods that are not control periods
Provides information about the next data period.
