go your way

A. Jealousy & betrayal in family
B. Child kidnap & slavery
C. Temptation

9. Lessons for us:
Father & Son
• Yusuf was respectful towards his father.
• The bond of father & child; being a great listener &
giving attention
• A good role model father/parent doesn’t mean the
kids are the most successful in life
• Nuh A.S. was not a bad father, Lut A.S. was not a bad
husband
• Syaitan is the culprit in persuading the brothers
11. Lessons for us:
Siblings rivalry
• Parents will always love ALL of their children
• But parents are humans too;
they tend to express more happiness in different
conditions
• At times we justify our faults by blaming our
parents,or others
12. Dreams & Intepretion
• Is there such a thing in islam?
• Should we think a lot about it?
• What happens if I have a bad dream?
• Is it a sign for things to come?

Story of Yusuf A.S.
16. The 1st dream
interpretation:
• 11 stars, the sun & the moon making sujud
• He was told by his father not to let his brothers know
about it
• They might get the wrong idea
• The dream was revealed at the end of the story
17. The 10 brothers
& Their Envy (Hasad)
• Clearly there were issues between them & their father, Ya’qub a.s
• Their father was the best role model of fatherhood, & yet they were
being envious over the other two brothers, Yusuf & Binyamin (in
some narration: their mother died early)
• Syaitan plays a huge role in influencing envy & hatred in their hearts
• The jealousy was so critical, that one of them suggested to kill
Yusuf a.s
18. How to cure envy?
• Go against the Nafs; e.g. pray for well-being for the
person, give presents & gifts, seek forgiveness from
him
• Count your blessings
• If you’re questioning others’ favours, you’re doubting
Allah’s fairness
19. Yusuf a.s was thrown into a
well
• Their father already knew he’s losing his beloved son
• They even made a shirt covered with blood as a proof, but that
didn’t convince Ya’qub a.s.
• The father was devastated & weeped until he turned blind
• Ya’qub didn’t buy his sons’ stories of lies, but he didn’t get too
furious about them nor threw them out of the house
• “Fa Sobrun Jamil..” - Patience is most fitting
20. Yusuf a.s was sold as a
(child) slave
• Meanwhile, Yusuf a.s. was found by travellers beneath the well
• He was them captured, and was sold cheaply for child slavery
• He was bought by a minister, as a gift for the wife
• To help her at home
• And even as their own child
21. Knowledge & wisdom
• Wisdom: Making right decisions, with the right
knowledge
• Knowing a lot of things does not guarantee you making
the right decision
22. The trial of seduction
• One day, Yusuf a.s. was tested by the minister’s wife
• While they were alone, she locked the door & asked Yusuf a.s
to fulfil her desires
• She was attracted to Yusuf’s looks, good character & felt lonely
• Thought of wanting; بها ّموه به تّهم ولقد Why? Because he is
human, a man, not married, of course there’s a thought
• But Yusuf a.s didn’t fall for it; he has wisdom and makes right
decisions
• Allah put something in his heart to convince
24. Let’s reflect
It is easy to fear Allah when you
are in the company of good.
The test becomes real
when you are by yourself.
25. Lessons to take-away:
• Like prophets, Allah elevates a servant through trials;
whether he/she succeeds or fails
• Yusuf a.s was hated by his own brothers, thrown into a well,
kidnapped, sold as a slave, seduced twice into adultery, &
imprisoned - these situations are not easy
• Patience is in: being obedient to God, in refraining from Sins, &
in trials
• Hasad (envy) can turn into wickedness if not attended properly
• Ihsan is when you can see Allah & realize Allah sees you

36. Yusuf A.S. was imprisoned, because
he was holding tight to Allah
So to him, being in prison is better than
letting his Nafs take over him
37. How can we practically save
ourselves from our Nafs?
Let’s discuss!
38. There is no ONE solution
Let’s discuss!
The heart needs cleansing everyday.

40. 1. Jealousy (Hasad):
drove his brothers to almost kill him
2. Seduction:
Tested when nobody was around
3. Imprisoned for being truthful:
Holding on to Allah is not just by
words
Lessons from previous chapters:
41. Let’s discuss!
Relationships: Seductions or love?
Why are parents against it?
Why do people get into relationships?
Why is it wrong?
Is getting married the only solution?
49. 1. For the one being advised
Accept it;
even if it’s hard & takes time
50. Be wise & think:
ask ourselves if it’s for their
own good, or to make
ourselves feel good
2. For the one giving advice
51. What do they mean?
1st dream: wine pressing
2nd dream: Bread eaten by
birds on his head
He will become the servant
of the king (serving wine)
He will be crucified and,
birds will eat his head out
52. The king’s dream
Seven Fat cows being
eaten by seven thin
cows
Seven Green (i.e fresh)
wheats & seven dried
wheats
55. Take-aways from this chapter:
1. Dream interpretation is different for Prophets;
they are revelations from God (wahyu)
2. Always seek the best time to give advices
3. As a listener, always take time to understand
what is being advised
4. Being patient will always have its reward

know how cruel it is with what you
did to Yusuf? Are you ignorant of
your actions?

I express my suffering and my
grief only to Allah…
ِﱠلا َىلِإ ِينْزُحَو ّيثَب ُوكْشَأ َاﱠمنِإ َلَاق

Reuniting with the Family
79. My Lord, You have given me [something] of kingdom,
and taught me of the interpretation of dreams. Creator
of the heavens and earth, You are my protector in this
world and in the Hereafter. Cause me to die a Muslim,
and join me with the righteous."

Yusuf A.S. show of gratitude
81. 1. Dominance
Allah is in complete control of His affairs,
but most people don’t know.
ِهِرْمأ َىلَع ٌبِلَاغ ُلَاو
َنُومَلْعَي َال ِسﱠانال َرَثْكَأ ﱠنِكَلَو
82. Allah’s choice
• Yusuf A.S. is placed in the most hopeless situation that one
can imagine: Severed from his family, sold into slavery
and casted in prison
• The odds are stacked up against him and all hope is cut off.
• In these utterly bleak circumstances, divine power comes
into play and, all of a sudden, Yusuf A.S. finds himself at
the pinnacle of fame and power. The dominance of God has
been established.
83. 2. Subtle
Indeed, my Lord is subtle in whatever He
does…
ُءَاشَي َاِمل ٌفِيطَل ّيبَر ﱠنِإ
84. Allah’s Subtlety
• When Yusuf A.S. was imprisoned; he was actually protected from
committing sins
• Yusuf A.S. did not know his fortune when he helped interpret the
prisoner’s dream
• Yusuf did not know his life was going to change when he interpreted the
King’s dream
• He did not foresee the brothers would come back in his life after so long
• Ya’qub A.S. also did not know he was going to be reunited with his son
once again
85. 3. Knowing & Wise
Indeed, He is Knowing & Wise
ُمِيكَحلا ُمِيلَعْلاَوُه ُهﱠنِإ
86. Knowledge & Wisdom
• Allah not only Knows what is going to happen, He
also Knows what is the best for us, at the best time
• Yusuf A.S. probably did not know or understand why
these tests & events were occurring, but he had Allah
• (Wisdom: Making right decisions, with the right
knowledge)
87. Qualities a believer should have in times of
trouble:
1. Knowing allah (Ilm)
2. Trust & Reliance (tawakkal)
3. Good actions (Ihsan)
88. Let’s conclude!
1. How do we deal with jealousy in our hearts?
2. How do we refrain ourselves from our own
sins?
3. How can we hold tightly to Allah s.w.t?
4. To forgive is easier said than done; what is
the best way to forgive?
