CloudStack is a powerful, flexible technology that greatly expands the economic potential for a datacenter. Performance management of CloudStack in context with the rest of the datacenter is critical for quick fault diagnostics, proactive management of bottlenecks and quickly bringing up or tearing down services. Learn how proper tooling can make the difference in running an excellent service versus a problem plagued environment.

The cloud gets a lot of coverage, but just how big is the cloud marketplace getting really? (click)Gartner unleashed its global cloud services market forecast for 2012, which predicts 2012 will close with cloud services marketplace growth of 19.6 percent, pegging the industry at $109 billion worldwide. Here are some other interesting stats.(click)Gartner breaks down the services market into business process services (BPaas), infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) and software-as-a-service (SaaS). Each has their own respective growth rates. Currently, BPaaS represents the largest cloud services segment with a commanding 77 percent of the total worldwide market. Meanwhile, BPaaS is slated to grow into a $84.2 billion market by the time 2012 runs out. This represents a sharp jump from the $72 billion in 2011.Software-as-as- service (SaaS) has a forecast growth hitting $14.4 billion by the end of 2012. IaaS, again a close second, is predicted to hit $6.2 billion by the end of the year. Interestingly platform-as-a-service (PaaS) is in its own category. Gartner attests it’s growing, but the market segment is a much smaller percentage than the other cloud services. PaaS is less about customer interaction and more a “strategic and … critical growth driver for other segments,” which include the SaaS and BPaaS spaces. Gartner predicts a comparatively small amount of growth, with PaaS hitting $1.2 billion by the end of 2012.(click)Finally, IaaS follows with around 45 percent growth — but IaaS has the distinction of being the fastest growing segmentof the cloud market
