 Second fastest growing suburb in NSW
 Culturally and linguistically diverse
 A first place of settlement for refugees
and migrants
 2007 – 2012 received 9,498 new
arrivals with the highest proportion of
humanitarian entrants per capita of
any Council area in NSW (Refugee
Council, n.d.)
 People come from Afghanistan,
followed by China and then Iraq
SEGMENTATION
 To reflect attitude, personality, interests, lifestyle, opinion and other
value based characteristics to create a useful picture of the
behaviors and activities of the segmented group
MARKETING STRATEGIES
The four “P’s” identified by Welch are used
as a framework for developing the
strategies:
Product – Are we providing the product or service that customers
want?
Price – The cost of the product
Place – Product available in the most preferable or convenient
ways
Promotion – Word of mouth
SWOT ANALYSIS
STRENGTHS
Free access
Good levels of comfort
Meeting place
Less interference
WEAKNESSES
Limited space
Opening hours are limited compared to other meeting venues
OPPORTUNITIES
A welcoming place to meet up
Increase awareness that the services library can provide
Investigate longer opening hours

Patrons may turn to their local agencies in preference to library
DESIGNING A PROGRAM
Two elements that go into designing a

What services?
Who will run the program?
What services will the program provide,
and to whom?
Who are members of the target population for this
program?
Will the library be able to fund the program?
Will the program be limited to people of a certain
language background?
Will learners have to live in Auburn?
