UTILITY SYSTEMS Electricity • Gas • Water  Phones
Our  Utility Management Plan  includes utilities for life support, infection control, environmental support, equipment support and communication systems support.  Emergency power must be available to the following predetermined critical areas in case of an electrical power outage: ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]
So how do we know our emergency backup electrical power system is reliable? The Facilities Department conducts MONTHLY testing of each generator for at least 30 minutes under a test load.   In addition,  Facilities conducts a “super test” once every three years, for an extended period of time, to be sure our back up plans and equipment are fully capable.

UTILITY SYSTEMS  FAILURE RESPONSE A  Code Yellow   may be announced if the outage is extensive enough.  Do you know what to do in the event of a Code Yellow in your area? Review your department’s plan with your manager!
RESPONDING  TO UTILITY FAILURES ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],Computer systems failure - Contact Information Systems and use the backup paper documentation system.  Telephone system failure - Contact Facility Services with red phones at UH - SP and black at UH - ZL. Fire alarm system - Contact Facility Services who will initiate the Fire Watch system. Notify the Environment of Care Safety Officer and Security.
