2. OVERVIEW
RCEP is a free trade agreement between the ten ASEAN Member States and five of ASEAN’s
external partners ( China, Japan, Korea, and New Zealand) that seeks to consolidate all the
existing ASEAN free trade agreements into a mega regional FTA arrangement

01 The agreement seeks to
prioritize economic and
technical cooperation initiatives
which are trade or investment-
related;
It seeks to minimize duplication
of on-going efforts under the
free trade agreements between
the Member States of ASEAN
and their free trade partners.

It aims to narrow development
gaps among the Parties and
maximize mutual benefits by
taking into account the different
levels of development and
national capacity of each Party.

determine and
develop a work
programme
which will list the
economic and
technical cooperation
activities to be
prioritized by RCEP

Philippines effectively
implement and utilize the
Agreement through technical
assistance and capacity
building initiatives.
RCEP agreement will be a
platform for cooperation and
network with other
businesses
Philippines can identify and
prioritize specific
industry/sectors that needs
capacity-building and
technical assistance. The
next step is to convene
consultative meetings with
government and private
stakeholders of PH priority
sectors
