  1. 1. The rondalla is an ensembleof stringed instruments played with the plectrum or pick andgenerally known as plectrum instruments. 
  2. 2. It originated in Medieval Spain, especiallyin Catalunya, Aragon, Murcia, and Valencia. The tradition was later taken to Spanish America and elsewhere.
  3. 3. That’sSpain miamigo!
  4. 4. The word rondalla is from theSpanish ronda, meaning "serenade."
  5. 5. A group of musicians known as comparza who played on stage.
  6. 6. Bands of musicians known as  murza or murga who begged for alms.
  7. 7. Groups of young men who played and sangregularly in front of homes. Hey! We are not rondallans!
  8. 8. Groups of university musicians known as estudiantina, dubbed “tuna”.
  9. 9. The Filipino instruments are made from indigenous Philippine wood and theplectrum, or picks, are made from tortoise-shell.
  10. 10. Other stringed instruments composing the standard Filipinorondalla are the bandurria, the laúd, the octavina, the bajo de uñas or double bass,bass guitar,
