This document discusses participating in work health and safety processes. • On January 2012 new Work Health and
Safety (WHS) laws replaced the
Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) laws
of 2000 in NSW.
• Every industry – including community based
organisations i.e children's services - must
incorporate the WHS legislation and
regulation into their workplace code of
practice.

5. Who does it affect and why do we need it?
• The role of legislation is to ensure that certain
standards are maintained for the safety and
welfare of all workers.
• Work health and safety is about preventing
injury, illness and disease in the workplace.
• We will be using the Work, Health and safety
Act of 2011 No 10 for information.
