DevoxxFR 2024 Reproducible Builds with Apache Maven
Dps stages of development
1. To create my music magazine double page spread I firstly imported the photograph I wanted
to use into Adobe Photoshop, selected around it accurately using the Polygonal Lasso Tool,
and inverted the selection so that the background is selected. Then I deleted the background
(leaving the area around my friend transparent).
Then I copied the image onto a new A4 document in Photoshop, rotated it so it was straight
and resized it so that it is towards the left of the page and the hair/arm is slightly cut off-
similar to Vibe.
2. Then I used the Gradient Tool to fill the background layer with the colour grey which had a
vertical fade out effect- similar to Vibe magazines. Then I adjusted the colour levels of the
photograph to increase the contrast and add more depth to it, so that it stands out more e.g.
the jacket is much more vibrant.
Then I added a quote from the article using the Type tool, then I made the speech marks
using the ‘Marquee’ and ‘Polygonal Lasso’ Tool. Then I used the Type tool to add a
description of the clothing and the location the photograph was taken.
3. Then I used Adobe InDesign software to create the double page spread together. Firstly I
created used the Rectangle Frame Tool to make a frame around the whole of the left A4
page, and then placed my first page of the double page spread in the frame, as a Photoshop
document.
Then I imported the photograph I wanted to use for the second page of my double page
spread, into Photoshop.
4. Then I adjusted the colour levels of the photograph to increase the contrast and add more
depth to it, so that it stands out more.
Then I used the Rectangle Frame Tool to make a frame at the bottom centre of the second
page of my double page spread, and placed my edited photograph into it.
5. Then I created my Article title using the Marquee Tool and referred to the title I created on my
double page spread draft, and a Vibe magazine article title, to ensure it is similar.
Then I used the Rectangle Frame Tool to make a frame at the top centre of the second page
of my double page spread, and placed my title into it.
6. Then I used Microsoft Word to type up my made-up article about the main artist featured in
magazine, then used the Type Tool in Adobe InDesign to create a frame for the article
subtitles, the article, and then changed the number of columns to two. I then copied the text
from Microsoft Word into the article frames on my double page spread.
Then I got a real Vibe magazine double page article, copy and pasted the header (page
number, lines, website and letter) into Photoshop, and edited it so that it became relevant to
my magazine (using image adjustments and ‘Polygonal Lasso’, ‘Type’, ‘Marquee’ and ‘Brush’
tools).
7. Then I used the Rectangle Frame Tool to make a frame in the top right of the second page of
my double page spread, placed my header (page number, lines, website and letter) into it,
and then resized it so that it was in proportion to a Vibe magazine. I then resized title and
moved article and images further down page so that all the text and images are central on the
page.
