How Did Hans Nielsen Ruge Contribute To Religion
Hans Nielsen Hauge
Hans Nielsen Hauge was born in 3.April 1771 in Rolvsoy and died 29.March 1824. He was a farmer
son and grew up in a Christian home, with 10 siblings. His parents were pious and enlightened
farmers. He was a Norwegian revival preacher. When he was 25, he started getting a strong religious
experience. He was called to "confess the Lord's name for the people and exhort them to repent". In
the next 8 years, he walked around almost the whole country. He was strong and resilient. While on
his way, he made many friends and changed thousands of women and men's lives. Many people that
disagreed with him changed their opinions after having meetings with him. He also wrote and
printed books, founded factories, and was a merchant and ship owner. Some of the businesses he
started:
Mill
Spinning mills
Printing
Bakery
Salt factory ships
Brickworks
Guests
Copper Mine
Trading
Keg Factory
Trading and Shipping He was never rich, but he never wished to be. He founded the Christian group
haugeans.
What he did was illegal. On the Conventicle from 1741, it said that it is prohibited to have meeting
without the priests' control. The priests did not like what he said, and he did not like what they said.
He thought that many of the priests where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In October 1804, he was once again arrested, and the accusations were serious. Priests were sending
hateful reports to the Government where they wrote that he was a public enemy that had to be
stopped by any means. Many of the accusations were of him having done financial fraud, and for
having founded a religious group that could be dangerous to the state. After nine years the judgment
was finally done. He ended up with a bot on 1000 riksdaler (a Swedish currency). In 1814, he was
finally free. Hauge was in jail from 1804 to 1811. He was released on 1809 due to the war between
Denmark and England for a few months so he could sell for the state salt factory ships. Then he was

Immigration Synthesis Essay
To measure societal acceptance towards immigrants, attitudinal data can be utilized to better
understand the effects of immigration on both societies. One way to measure the general political
reaction of each country towards the influx of immigrants. Though such data is constrained by
temporal boundaries, a blanket understanding can be gleamed from surveys taken in nations during
different periods. Further, in both countries, support for the importance of mainstream right–wing
strategies has exacerbated the politicization of the immigrant issue. A survey asking identical
questions in the two countries was conducted by the European Monitoring Centre on Racism and
Xenophobia in 2000. The Swedes tend to be more positive than the Danes, but the differences are
not dramatic. However, similarly to Denmark, societal attention to the issue increased in the 1980s,
not least due to a considerable growth in the number of refugees from the Middle East. In both
nations, there are clear trends that reveal a significant rise in negative attitudes towards immigrants;
but, the levels of said societal and political attention towards immigrants and the policies enacted
which affect immigrants differ greatly in Sweden and Denmark.
Sweden's political reaction is both measurable and significant in terms of the incessantly evolving
political climate of Europe towards the immigration issue. Since 1989, the Swedes have been asked
annually what issues they think are the most important in Sweden

Denmark Vesey
Denmark Vesey was an African–American leader of an attempted slave insurrection in 1822. After
many years as a slave, he won $1,500 in a lottery. Vesey used this money to purchase his freedom.
He used his intelligence, energy, and luck to acquire considerable wealth and influence in South
Carolina. All of these factors helped lead to the largest attempted slave revolt in American history.
David Robertson's book Denmark Vesey outlines his life as a slave, to his freedom, to his execution,
and the consequences of the aftermath. South Carolina was one of the only states in which the black
slaves and abolitionists outnumbered their oppressors. Denmark Vesey's slave revolt consisted of
over nine–thousand armed slaves, free blacks, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In their "church meetings," they planned to assassinate the governor and other highly elected state
officials. They also intended to set the city on fire, and then murder the entire white population of
the city, including women and children. Only the lives of those who were captains of the ships that
would help the rebels escape to either Haiti or Africa, would be spared. The plot of the revolt is a
significant incident in American history, with just the thought of it actually occurring enough to
terrify citizens of South Carolina. The Denmark Vesey rebellion is most remembered because of its
closeness to success. The plot internally fell through when informers betrayed him, and confessed to
their masters the plans that had been made. By the end of the summer of 1822, Vesey, along with 34
other leaders, were arrested and tried. They were then convicted and executed in a place that is still
unknown to us. Although the revolt never took place, the slaves and abolitionists definitely had the
resources and ability to do it. David Robertson obviously thoroughly researched the topic, with 40
pages of notes, and pictures at the end of the book. He took a very limited source of information,
and turned it into a historical detective novel. That in itself is credible, even though the book is
relatively short. Denmark Vesey gives a good foundation of information on the subject, but is
lacking in certain areas.

The Little Mermaid And The Ugly Duckling By Hans Christian...
Hans Christian Andersen is a Danish author, who is best remembered for some of his iconic fairy
tails. Some of his most popular fairy tales include 'The Emperor's New Clothes', 'The Little
Mermaid', 'The Ugly Duckling', and many more. Andersen grew up in Odense, Denmark, and was
born on April 2, 1805. When he was only 11, his dad passed away and left him with his mother,
Anne Marie. Even though his family was not wealthy by any means, he was educated at a private
boarding school for the privileged. This drew speculation that he was an illegitimate member of the
Danish royal family, but it was never fully proven. Andersen grew up to go to Copenhagen to
become an actor. During this time he began to write, but this was discouraged by his teachers. His
work later gained recognition in 1829. He began to write many fairy tales in 1835, which were some
of his most successful and memorable stories. He also wrote an autobiography talking about himself
and his writing. It was published ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

"Jewelry Law" Denmark is a country with generous social programs to all of its citizens. Denmark
offers free healthcare for everyone, as well as free education, job training, subsidized child care, and
even fuel subsidies. Due to the immense social programs that Denmark offers, the country is viewed
as a prime location to migrate. Thousands of refugees from the war zones in Syria, Iraq, and
Afghanistan seek asylum in Denmark in order to live a better life. Recently the Denmark Monarchy
has been looking at ways to combat the large numbers of immigrants who have been entering their

Denmark's prosperity peaked during the Viking Age, as the pillaged their way into multiple villages
and gained a vast majority of what is now United Kingdom land. Multiple centuries later, in the 14th
century, a civil war broke out. The people in the Denmark Kingdom were furious over how much
power the King's had over the people. The leader of Denmark at the time, Christoph II, gave up
much of his power to please his people. The civil war efforts were shortsighted, however, as 20
years later Waldemar IV gave all power back to the King. Denmark became peaceful until about 200
years later, in the years 1534–1559 once again another civil war erupted within the Kingdom. A new
monarch was set up that still exists today. For many centuries after the second civil war, Denmark

Denmark and the Third Reich
Denmark, a small country north of Germany was going about its normal routines as the strength of
the Nazis under the Third Reich, the government led by Adolf Hitler, began to grow. Then in an
instant it all changed. The Danes had signed a pact with Germany in 1939 and were completely
taken by surprise when German airplanes flooded the skies. The Danish had no way to defend
themselves and surrendered within hours on April 9, 1940. Hitler had planned to take Denmark
because he had found that it had many advantages to go along with his plans. The Danes represented
the "perfect" race, the Aryans. Also, and more importantly it was closer to Swedish war supplies,
and to Great Britain to allow for attacks. Lastly, it was close to Norway which was Hitler's second
target after the invasion of Denmark. Although approximately 7,000 Jews were saved during the
Danish Resistance, the acts were not necessary because of the protection Germany provided to
Denmark, the problems associated with politics and the economy because of the resistance, and
lastly the division of the people in Denmark because of their different views on how to approach the
arising issue. The protection that Germany provided to the Danish during the occupation of the
region is very significant. Although the Germans did take over and occupy the country of Denmark
the leaders of Germany told and allowed the king of Denmark at the time to remain in his position
as the head ruler and go on about their daily lives as they

Ravinder Kaur Who Says You Re A Dane Summary
In the article "who says you're a dane?" author Ravinder Kaur takes a deep and Poignant look at the
state of immigration and what it means to be "Danish" within the Danish culture and Danish
politics. Throughout the article, Kaur provides numerous premises and pieces of evidence to support
her two–part conclusion. The first part of the conclusion is that "Being a meaningful contributor to
society was once deemed valuable in Denmark, enough to provide a sense of belonging. But now,
it's the bloodline that matters." As well as the second part of the conclusion which is that "An anti–
immigrant stance in Denmark is now neither masked in clumsy euphemisms nor accompanied by
halfhearted gestures of conciliation toward the "New Danes". The message is now delivered rough
and raw by a new generation of outspoken politicians". In her article, Kaur provides three statements
by three different Danish politicians to premise her conclusion. The first premise she presents is a
statement from Martin Henriksen, the chairman of a parliamentary committee on immigration,
integration, and housing. On a televised exchange Henriksen said "This is not how one becomes

Essay Similarities Between Hamlet And Beowulf
Both Shakespeare's Hamlet and R.M. Liuzza's translation of Beowulf are classic tragedies that both
tell the story of a young man ridding Denmark of a malicious monster, which ultimately ends in
their death. However, that is where the majority of Hamlet and Beowulf similarities end.
Shakespeare's famous tragedy revolves around a young prince expressing his inner feelings and
plans towards revenge on his murderous uncle throughout his many soliloquies. This self–reflective
attitude towards oneself is not seen in Beowulf and instead, jumps straight into defending one's
honor through physical battle and seeking revenge with little contemplation. Although both
characters successfully execute their revenge on their respective monster(s), Hamlet and Beowulf's
journey towards this finale differentiates through their individual hamartia, which ultimately leads to
their deaths.
Beowulf's tragic flaw is evidently, his hubris. It leads him to overestimate his strength and let pride
come in the way of his safety. The beginning of the poem quickly showcased Beowulf's belief that
only he can save the Danish people from Grendel the monster. He reveals this when telling the thane
of Hrothgar, "I can counsel Hrothgar, advise him how...he may overcome this fiend...or else forever
afterwards a time of anguish" (Beowulf 278–279, 283). Beowulf ultimately believes he is the Dane's
only hope and without his aid, Hrothgar and his people will suffer. It seems as if he almost sees
himself as a man of

Fierceness in Beowulf and in The Saga of King Hrolf Kraki
Is fierceness mentioned only in Beowulf or is it an element common also to this famous Icelandic
saga? Is fierceness described the same way as in Beowulf?
The Anglo–Saxons prior to 1000AD were as a race fierce. They possessed great courage. Beowulf
reflects their fierceness and courage in a variety of ways. Beowulf complains to Unferth in the
Danish court: "Grendel would never have done such horrors ... if you were so fierce as you
suppose." The hero, who had earlier killed nine sea monsters, opted to face Grendel in mortal
combat WITHOUT sword or shield or the assistance of others: "but I shall seize my enemy in my

hard and her bone rings broke. The blade entered; she fell to the ground. The sword was bloody."
The hero severed the monster's head, and "the corpse split when it suffered that blow." Later, when
Ongentheow was pursuing his enemies into Ravenswood, he repeatedly threatened "with the sword,
cut them open or hang them from trees, a sport for birds." In his last fight, the hero was charged by
the dragon, who "bit Beowulf's neck with sharp tusks – Beowulf was wet with life's blood; blood
gushed in waves." As the hero's funeral pyre went up in flames, the Geatish woman "told earnestly

Work behaviors in Scandinavia are completely different to France:
First of all, a general thing in Denmark which is also used at work is the confidence. For example, it
is not compulsory to stay eight hours at work to look serious or to do your job. You are completely
free to manage your time as you want and to do your work at the office or at home. Usually, Danish
people leave the office at 2pm and even earlier on Friday. There is no system to check at what time
you are in and out of the company (as in France). There is no legislation that regulates working
hours in the private sector, but it is stipulated in individual and collective labor contracts. An
employee should not be required to work in excess of 48 hours per week for a period of 4 months,
according to the EU directive on working time. In Denmark, lunch breaks last only 30 minutes and
instead of going home, we take lunch with colleagues. The key for them is to do the work and to
respect the deadline.

Then, the family is very important in the Danish culture, even the most significant thing. All the
work system is made and organized in such way that people can spend as much time with their
children and their families. This also explains why people finish work early.
Another really important point about employees' law. In Denmark, employees are not so protected
than in France, the possibility to fire someone is really easy. An employee can be fired in 3 months.
It is also the reason why companies easily hire people.
Regarding language at work, English is used corporatist language in lots of large companies. We
could even say that English is for some people a second language. The emails are often written in
English from the beginning, in order to involve colleagues or partners from other countries, which is

Denmark By Dan Buettner Summary
In the Scandinavian country of Denmark, people tend to lead the happiest, stress free lives
anywhere. The Danish people live a life without any rushing about, comparison, or competition. The
citizens go about their lives doing there best not to stand out one from another. This of course is a
very different idea than we are used to here in the United States. Here we want to smell the best,
look the best, make ourselves memorable, least be be forgotten and just part of the crowd. Dan

Danes feel and truly believe, "work gets itself done" (Buettner, 2011, p.41). The people only work a
total of thirty seven hours a week and are sure to take up to six weeks of vacation a year. They work
as little as possible, but enough to see a steady progress. The focus is on family, hobbies and clubs.
Dan Buettner asked, about how the few hours and if they did see a loss of productivity as compared
to the United States. The fact is that we as Americans do waists a lot of time while at work. We take
a few breaks throughout the day, we check personal message while at work, mixing business and
pleasure while in the office. He was told, "our work is important to our identities. But we get it done
and go home to our families and friends" (Buettner, 2011, p.42). I personally love that idea, focus
more and work when at work, then coming home and being more present with your family. This
happened just this past weekend with our children and my husband. He is a supervisor at work, but
even when we are out as a family, he is often pulled way to handle a work phone call. My job can do
the same, a parent wants to talk to you about their child at my son's football game, or my boss will
call with a question. If we as a family could learn to leave work at work, and home time for family
and hobbies, I know it would make our personal combined happiness

Why Vikings Adopted Christianity
The purpose of my investigation is to answer the question on why the Vikings adopted Christianity.
The main body will focus on why the Viking's religion. Evidence will include sources such as
websites. The Vikings were a seafaring people from the late eighth to early 11th century who
established a name for themselves as traders, explorers and warriors. 'Viking' is the name by which
the Scandinavian sea–borne raiders of the early medieval period are now commonly known. Even
before the earliest Viking raids on the monasteries, the Anglo–Saxons used an Old English word
'wicing'. The word Viking comes from the word Viking comes from the Icelandic "vikingr" which
means pirate.

They also settled in the Faroe Islands, Ireland, Icel, America etc. There are several reasons why
these Norsemen adopted Christianity. The Vikings came into contact with Christianity through their
raids, and when they settled in lands with a Christian population, they adopted Christianity quite
quickly. Even though the Vikings often seem to have maintained their beliefs throughout the periods
of their raiding, there was considerable pressure to convert to Christianity if they wished to have
more peaceful relations with the Christians. Another more or less formal convention applied to
trade, since Christians were not really supposed to trade with pagans. Although a full conversion
does not seem to have been demanded of all Scandinavian traders, the custom of 'primsigning'
(first–signing) was introduced. This was a halfway step, falling short of baptism, but indicating
some willingness to accept Christianity, and this was often deemed to be enough to allow trading. It
became a political and economic advantage to be Christian to continue trading with the south. The
economic system was based on farming and trade, it became impossible to trade with other countries

The Vikings were seen as heathen pirates by those that experienced their attacks. Many people had
every reason to be frightened as their warships sailed from their homelands in Scandinavia. The
Vikings were actually several different peoples who lived in we now know as Norway, Sweden and
Denmark. Many people think of them today just as warlike raiders but some were farmers,
merchants and architects. Their artists and craftspeople produced beautiful objects. Many Vikings

Analysis Of Number The Stars By Lois Lowry
The novel, Number the Stars, by Lois Lowry, takes place during World War II in Copenhagen,
Denmark. It has been three years after the war began, and like many other countries at the time,
Germany had conquered Denmark. The German soldiers have occupied Denmark, and the soldiers
were in every corner of the streets. The Nazi acquisition has changed Denmark in many ways. For
example, the soldiers took many things such as coffee, butter, and sugar. Copenhagen had a curfew,
and no citizens were allowed out after 8 o'clock. The Germans have also issued orders that closed
stores owned by the Jews. Annemarie Johansen, an ordinary girl, lives during this period when
things had changed for the worse. Her best friend, Ellen Rosen, is a Jew who also lived during this
period. The Germans have taken synagogue lists of all the Jews, and the Rosens were on the list.
The Nazis plan to arrest all the Danish Jews and take them away. The Rosens are no longer safe in
Denmark. Because the Johansens and the Rosens are friends, so the Johansens decides to help them
escape to Sweden, a free country that is close to Denmark. When Annemarie hears that the Germans
have begun to torment the Jews, Annemarie says that she wants all of Denmark to be the bodyguards
of the Jews, too. She thought to herself that she wasn't sure if she would truly die for the Jews, and
she was glad to be an ordinary person who would never be called upon for courage. Annemarie has
never thought that she was brave; however, when

Religious Values In Hamlet
Known for its artistic and spiritual appeal, the Renaissance was a period of European Reformation in
between the English Civil Wars and the War of the Roses. Shakespeare, famous for his theatrical
talent, thrived among the artists of this time while writing his production Hamlet. As pictured in
Hamlet, this era of religious appreciation and repentance focused on the popular Renaissance idea of
the Great Chain of Being, which is a strictly followed divine hierarchy in which every human has a
place (Grandview.edu), much like the hierarchy of the monarchy form of government. Naturally, this
took shape in Denmark's monarchical system, which is where the story of Hamlet takes place.
Because of Denmark's uncommon political system, particularly two characters' lives were
dramatically altered. After King Hamlet's death, Queen Gertrude wed with King Hamlet's brother,
Claudius, who inherited the crown rather than young Hamlet. Seeing his mother's relationship as
incestuous and adulterous, Hamlet represents the Renaissance ideals of biblical ideology, which
greatly disdained the relationship. However, the hidden explanations of Denmark's political system
and leverage by manipulation explain how the plot of Shakespeare's great story of revenge is
possible. Due to Denmark's system of elective monarchy and a need for a strong patriarchal figure,
Gertrude married Claudius, which in turn gave him the political support to usurp the election for
power from Prince Hamlet away at college.

Why Is Hamlet A Perfect Country
The Perfect Country
By: Amanda
If I would choose anywhere to live in the world I would choose someplace in which I have already
been to. Denmark has several delightful traits. Some of those traits are Denmark has great education
for all, is very healthy and last but not least Denmark is such a strong culture and art.
If one would have to choose anywhere to live in the world you should consider Denmark because of
its impeccable traits, even though there are a few drawbacks, and, in my personal opinion, why I
would prefer Denmark over Canada.
If one would ever consider to move to Denmark they would find that Denmark has a great
education. Right up front if you didn't know Denmark actually has free university. The reason why

One negative thing about Denmark is that it is undoubtedly expensive. If you had been in a store
everything is super overpriced (you don't need a shirt to be 75 dollars). I would need to definitely be
aware of how much I am spending because I would not want to go broke. Another not good reason
is that Denmark has really high taxes instead of that 13% Denmark has 27%. If you think that 27%
is high if you want to buy a car the taxes can be 108% That is more then the car. This last reason is a
bad thing if you hate fish like me. Since Denmark is so close to the ocean, they catch a lot of fish
and eat a lot of fish. Which is bad because that means they have a lot more fish on their menus
instead of better things. These reasons might cause me to perhaps instead of Denmark to go to

Theme Of Corruption In Hamlet By William Shakespeare
"To be or not to be: That is the question" (Hamlet, Act 3 Scene 1). The quote written by Shakespeare
is one of the most known quotes in the world. From great scholars who have spent years studying
works of Hamlet to the young adults who have never read a piece of Shakespearean literature.
Almost everyone has heard or said this saying, but do they know what it means? The answer to that
is not really. That saying is part of a great soliloquy, and people have been discussing what it truly
means since Shakespeare has written it. Many will say it is about suicide, while others may argue
that it is about taking charge. All that is known is that Shakespeare was an intelligent man, who was

During the play, poison is significantly used by characters. The decision to use poison by characters,
such as Claudius, a corrupt king, is a way that Shakespeare symbolizes the idea of decay and
corruption. Throughout the play, poison was a part of every death. Even in the final act, when they
were using a sword, poison was still placed on the tip. When Claudius was already dying, Hamlet
said "Here thou incestuous, damned Dane/Drink of this potion. Is the union here?/Follow my
mother" (Hamlet,5.2, Lines 300–305). Hamlet had taken the poison and forced Claudius, who was
stabbed, to drink the poison. The reason that poison is so widely used is that, unlike any other
weapon, poison slowly ruins the body just the way that the people of Denmark were negatively
affected by the Claudius. Another way that the theme was developed was also in the final act.
Claudius, who has a corrupt soul decided to place a pearl inside a cup which poisoned the drink.
When corruption happens, especially to someone in power, corruption goes down a chain. This idea
of placing poison in a cup illustrates Claudius' corruption ruining the kingdom the way that the
poison had infected the cup. For the most part, it is not only the action and thoughts that are corrupt
but also the characters themselves and who they

Denmark's Culture, Religion and Language
Denmark's main language is Danish and English. Danish is defined as the official language in
Denmark, Greenland and the Faeroe Island. Danish is known as a flat language because the sound of
Danish always seems to amuse foreigners who give the language a certain entertainment value.
Danish can be a language which is very difficult for people from other countries to learn and
understand. Besides that, foreigners have found that they are unable to pronounce Danish language.
The Danish pronunciation is that the Danish "r" has to be fetched from deep below the tonsils. Non–
Danish speakers are difficult to pronounce the glottal stop (stød) because they may be
misunderstood and confused with Danish pronunciation. For example le'ver (with a glottal stop)
means liver, whereas lever (without a glottal stop) means to live. Denmark's culture has
characteristics as Danish society. The egalitarianism in Danish society is reflected in their language
which is employs gender–neutral words. In Danish society, Danes are more concerned about the
group than their own individual needs. Men in Danish society are considered to be more actively
involved in child–rearing activities than in many countries and the maternity and paternity

Upsetting the Social Order during Hamlet Created...
During the Elizabethan era, the philosophy that established social order was known as the "Concept
of Order", stating that everything had its own place and contributed to a certain position.
Elizabethans believed that establishing order was the only way for a civilization to function and
progress. This philosophy that governed the minds of many individuals seems to have been a
prevalent thought in Shakespeare's mind, the evidence being the recurring theme of the
disorganization in social order. The disruption of social order, as described by the Great Chain of
Being, was to be avoided, because the consequences would be destructive. The conflicts that arise
throughout "Hamlet" are due to a disturbance in the Concept of Order, resulting ... Show more

As a result of such events, God is severed from human beings, and disarray emanates. Elizabethans
believed that an "individual who coveted or strived for a place in the social hierarchy which he was
not born into was a criminal" Distinct Classes). Claudius disturbed the Concept of Order by
coveting the position King Hamlet had as King of Denmark, and further disrupted the Order by
killing his brother. After the death of King Hamlet, Prince Hamlet was supposed to be the next king
of Denmark. According to the Law of Primogeniture, "the eldest son of each family would inherit...
his father's title" (Distinct Classes). However, Prince Hamlet was robbed of that rite by his
murdering uncle, Claudius. Claudius is therefore pronounced King of Denmark, which is an
absolute disregard of the Concept of Order. Furthermore, "Hamlet" portrays how the upset of order
causes the gradual deterioration of a family. The causes of this familial disorder are King Hamlet's
murder, Gertrude's brief mourning of her deceased husband and Claudius and Gertrude's "o'erhasty
marriage" (II.ii.57). Hamlet mourns the death of his father in a "conventional Elizabethan form",
whereas, Claudius and Gertrude celebrate their marriage (Kirsch). King Hamlet, the patriarch and
the figure head of the family, is murdered creating an unstable family. Hamlet disapproves of how
his mother was so quick to mourn the death of his father, and feels that her grief is marred by her

Northern Seven Years War Analysis
Though Denmark was deprived of the two local primary resources which possess direct application
in Baltic warfare, the state possessed the ability, as a result of the direct regnal revenue obtained

Denmark : Globalization and the Welfare State Essay
DENMARK : Globalization and the Welfare State
Today Denmark is one of the most prosperous countries in the world. Unemployment rates are low.
Denmark also has low inflation and a surplus on both balance of payments and public expenditure.
The World Economic Forum's 2008 competitiveness index ranks Denmark in its Top Three world–
wide. And the World Transparency Index ranks it as the world champion in non–corruption.
Furthermore it should be noted that other international comparisons nominate the Danes as the
happiest people in the world! Denmark's success is so impressive.

This is due to its relatively homogeneous population of 5.4 million, a strong sense of national
identity, and the fact that, until recently, immigration flows were moderate. Most immigrants in
Denmark came from other Nordic or Western countries, and the country experienced more
emigration than immigration. The problems the Danish welfare state faces in terms of integrating
immigrants are rooted in two interconnected phenomena. One is that the government and the public
believe the continued success of Denmark depends on cultural homogeneity. The second is that
policies of entry and integration have been inadequately geared to distinguishing between different
"categories" of immigrants (e.g. economic migrants versus refugees, male versus female
immigrants, Muslim versus non–Muslim), and have also been unprepared for the increase in the
number of refugees and family dependents. However, since politicians and the public are beginning
to realize that Denmark will need more immigrants in order to cope with the an ageing population
and to ensure a sufficient supply of skilled as well as unskilled workers to a booming economy,
there are a number of concrete changes in immigration policies. They include automatic citizenship
for children born and raised in Denmark, regardless of their parents' citizenship; equal welfare rights
for immigrants and Danes; vast reductions in application fees and cash securities; expanded work

Violence in Beowulf
Violence in Beowulf Beowulf is an epic poem written in Anglo–Saxon times, by an unknown poet.
Beowulf is a Geatish man who rescues the Danish people from evil, and helps save his own country
from destruction. Beowulf, renowned for his bravery, and known as the strongest man alive,
acquires the help of fourteen thanes to sail with him to Denmark. There he is involved in two battles
with two evil monsters. He then fights another battle in his homeland with a Fire dragon. Without
violence in Beowulf, heroism would be impossible as evidenced by Beowulf's battles with Grendel,
his mother, and the Fire dragon. Beowulf first shows his heroic nature in the fight with Grendel.

The Role of the Holy Fool in the Context of Danish Cinema
Introduction
In Christian folklore, the holy fool is an archetypal figure that stands apart from society, elevated to
a transcendent status based on his or her piety. Holy fools flout social norms, and are thus unable to
be properly accommodated in their respective societies. With their position of outsider, holy fools
are ideally suited to critique mainstream ideas and practices, acting as a narrative device to provide
commentary on the world. Holy fools exist in a separate sphere from "regular" fools due to their
associations with Christ figures. Christian tradition speaks of many famous holy fools, from
nameless monks who give up all of their worldly possessions to become closer to Jesus, to
characters of Biblical renown, such as Saint Paul (Thomas 2009: 204). The depiction of a holy fool
is undoubtedly influenced by the religious climate of a society. Traditionally, holy fools have been
part of Roman Catholic and Orthodox faiths, where saints have traditionally been revered for their
ability to follow God in the most extreme fashion so that they appear foolish to the majority of
society that is less in tune with God's wishes. In Denmark, Protestant traditions dominate the
religious landscape, so the depiction of the holy fool must be adjusted accordingly.
In order to understand the role of the holy fool in the context of Danish cinema, it is first necessary
to look at the role of religion in Danish society. Starting in 1536, Denmark has transitioned into a

Suicide in Greenland and Denmark
Suicide in Greenland and Denmark: a Cross–cultural Comparison
Introduction
The topic of suicide of interest because socially it is not quite understood yet and mostly, the
attitudes towards the act are generally negative or perceived as taboo. The focus on Greenland was
chosen because of the folklore story called "Qivittoq" that illustrates a different attitude towards
suicide than one is used to. Therefore, it would be interesting to explore whether this folklore story
explains suicide in Greenland and how it compares to a country with a historical link to Greenland:
Denmark. The countries in focus will be Greenland and Denmark, mainly because of their link
through colonisation in the 1700s, but also Greenland is still part of the Kingdom of Denmark today,
thus there are still ties connected the two cultures. Therefore, there should be a basis of similarities,
as well as some differences between the two. Which leads to the question: How do attitudes towards
suicide differ between habitants of Greenland compared to Denmark? The paper will delve into
some of the differences between the two countries and then outline some causes for the high suicide
rate in Greenland, namely; social and cultural change, alcohol consumption, seasonal variation and
"Qivittoq".

Hitler had special plans for Denmark. He regarded Denmark as a fellow Aryan nation that shared its

authoritative dogmatists [including Alfred Rosenberg and Joseph Goebbels] of the Nazi creed have

WAYS IN WHICH ENGINEERS HAVE CONSIDERED THE IMPACT ON SOCIETY OF
ORESUND BRIDGE (WONG MING MING)
Relationship between Two Countries
The Oresund Bridge was agreed to build after the Danish and Swedish governments signed the final
agreement of building Oresund Bridge in year 1991. The considerations of the impact of Oresund
Bridge were being made such as using this link to promote commuting and the exchange of culture
between Copenhagen in Denmark and Malmo in Sweden (Oresundsbro Konsortiet 2008, p. 2).
Engineers believed that culture exchange between Sweden and Denmark can make their relationship
even closer by knowing each other's culture.
For the culture of Sweden, Swedes normally are egalitarian, which means that Swedes are the
person who supports the principle of equality for all people (Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary
2014). Swedes are humble and cannot accept boasting (Sweden–language, culture, customs and
etiquette 2013). Swedes often give thanks and their behaviours are strongly balanced towards
moderation. Swedes work hard but not too hard and they will go enjoy themselves without
participating in something which is extreme. Also, due to the strong egalitarianism, competition is
not encouraged in Sweden.
Meanwhile in Denmark, the Danes are being called as the world's happiest people. Danes are always
satisfied with the way they live (Danish culture and lifestyle 2013). Danes are also generous because
they are much aware of their high living standard.

Batman And Beowulf Comparison
In the last 50 years, countless heroes have been created or shown through film. One of the most
interesting, modern, fictional heroes that we have seen is the Batman played by Christian Bale,
otherwise known as the Dark Knight in the Dark Knight series. Even after more than a thousand
years since the creation of the epic poem Beowulf, similar characteristics of the character Beowulf
are still seen in fictional heroes such as Batman. Although on the surface Beowulf and Batman seem
very different, many of their basic characteristics are very similar including their motivation, the
people that doubted them, their love for their homeland, and the personal sacrifices that they made
for the greater good. This juxtaposition is proof that humans throughout history have gone through
the same thought process when creating their heroes.

Beowulf proves him wrong. This aspect of both heroes definitely seems to be more complicated

The Theme Of Reputation In Beowulf
Witten by an anonymous author, the poem Beowulf consists of several major themes. One of those
themes is reputation. Reputation is the acknowledgment by other people of some characteristic.
Although having a good reputation is very important to many people nowadays. It is also important
to people who lived many centuries ago. In the poem Beowulf, having a righteous reputation is very
important and greatly valued by many characters, especially to Danish people, Beowulf, Grendel,
and Grendel's mother. To begin with, the reader first notices the importance of reputation in the
poem when Beowulf and his twelve warriors land on the Danish shores. As they are getting down
from the ship, a Danish watcher sees them and goes up to them to see who they are. The lieutenant
asks Beowulf who he is, and why he is coming to his coast. Beowulf replies by saying, "We... follow
Higlac, my father was a famous soldier...men all over the earth...remember him." (156–163) Then,
the lieutenant figures out that Beowulf has a good reputation. Therefore, he allows Beowulf and his
men to enter the Danish shores, and he leads them to Hrothgar. This incident shows the reader that
reputation is very important, and if a character has a bad reputation, he would not be welcomed into
other kingdoms. Moreover, Beowulf meets Hrothgar, they start talking. Beowulf starts listing his
achievements and the things he had done. "I drove five great giants into chains / I swam... hunting
monsters out of the ocean." (232–236)

when Denmark began to experience immigration, the country had a negative birthrate and

inflow of Germans, which left a great impact on the culture and economic development of Denmark.
In 1885, foreign citizens made up eight percent of the population of Copenhagen. During the same
time, Germans immigrated in to harvest potatoes. In 1914, 14,000 Polish citizens immigrated to

  • 1. How Did Hans Nielsen Ruge Contribute To Religion Hans Nielsen Hauge Hans Nielsen Hauge was born in 3.April 1771 in Rolvsoy and died 29.March 1824. He was a farmer son and grew up in a Christian home, with 10 siblings. His parents were pious and enlightened farmers. He was a Norwegian revival preacher. When he was 25, he started getting a strong religious experience. He was called to "confess the Lord's name for the people and exhort them to repent". In the next 8 years, he walked around almost the whole country. He was strong and resilient. While on his way, he made many friends and changed thousands of women and men's lives. Many people that disagreed with him changed their opinions after having meetings with him. He also wrote and printed books, founded factories, and was a merchant and ship owner. In October 1804, he was once again arrested, and the accusations were serious. Priests were sending hateful reports to the Government where they wrote that he was a public enemy that had to be stopped by any means. Many of the accusations were of him having done financial fraud, and for having founded a religious group that could be dangerous to the state. After nine years the judgment was finally done. He ended up with a bot on 1000 riksdaler (a Swedish currency). In 1814, he was finally free. Hauge was in jail from 1804 to 1811. He was released on 1809 due to the war between Denmark and England for a few months so he could sell for the state salt factory ships. Then he was jailed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Immigration Synthesis Essay To measure societal acceptance towards immigrants, attitudinal data can be utilized to better understand the effects of immigration on both societies. One way to measure the general political reaction of each country towards the influx of immigrants. Though such data is constrained by temporal boundaries, a blanket understanding can be gleamed from surveys taken in nations during different periods. Further, in both countries, support for the importance of mainstream right–wing strategies has exacerbated the politicization of the immigrant issue. A survey asking identical questions in the two countries was conducted by the European Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia in 2000. The Swedes tend to be more positive than the Danes, but the differences are not dramatic. However, similarly to Denmark, societal attention to the issue increased in the 1980s, not least due to a considerable growth in the number of refugees from the Middle East. In both nations, there are clear trends that reveal a significant rise in negative attitudes towards immigrants; but, the levels of said societal and political attention towards immigrants and the policies enacted which affect immigrants differ greatly in Sweden and Denmark. Sweden's political reaction is both measurable and significant in terms of the incessantly evolving political climate of Europe towards the immigration issue. Since 1989, the Swedes have been asked annually what issues they think are the most important in Sweden ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Denmark Vesey Denmark Vesey was an African–American leader of an attempted slave insurrection in 1822. After many years as a slave, he won $1,500 in a lottery. Vesey used this money to purchase his freedom. He used his intelligence, energy, and luck to acquire considerable wealth and influence in South Carolina. All of these factors helped lead to the largest attempted slave revolt in American history. David Robertson's book Denmark Vesey outlines his life as a slave, to his freedom, to his execution, and the consequences of the aftermath. South Carolina was one of the only states in which the black slaves and abolitionists outnumbered their oppressors. Denmark Vesey's slave revolt consisted of over nine–thousand armed slaves, free blacks, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In their "church meetings," they planned to assassinate the governor and other highly elected state officials. They also intended to set the city on fire, and then murder the entire white population of the city, including women and children. Only the lives of those who were captains of the ships that would help the rebels escape to either Haiti or Africa, would be spared. The plot of the revolt is a significant incident in American history, with just the thought of it actually occurring enough to terrify citizens of South Carolina. The Denmark Vesey rebellion is most remembered because of its closeness to success. The plot internally fell through when informers betrayed him, and confessed to their masters the plans that had been made. By the end of the summer of 1822, Vesey, along with 34 other leaders, were arrested and tried. They were then convicted and executed in a place that is still unknown to us. Although the revolt never took place, the slaves and abolitionists definitely had the resources and ability to do it. David Robertson obviously thoroughly researched the topic, with 40 pages of notes, and pictures at the end of the book. He took a very limited source of information, and turned it into a historical detective novel. That in itself is credible, even though the book is relatively short. Denmark Vesey gives a good foundation of information on the subject, but is lacking in certain areas. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. The Little Mermaid And The Ugly Duckling By Hans Christian... Hans Christian Andersen is a Danish author, who is best remembered for some of his iconic fairy tails. Some of his most popular fairy tales include 'The Emperor's New Clothes', 'The Little Mermaid', 'The Ugly Duckling', and many more. Andersen grew up in Odense, Denmark, and was born on April 2, 1805. When he was only 11, his dad passed away and left him with his mother, Anne Marie. Even though his family was not wealthy by any means, he was educated at a private boarding school for the privileged. This drew speculation that he was an illegitimate member of the Danish royal family, but it was never fully proven. Andersen grew up to go to Copenhagen to become an actor. During this time he began to write, but this was discouraged by his teachers. His work later gained recognition in 1829. He began to write many fairy tales in 1835, which were some of his most successful and memorable stories. He also wrote an autobiography talking about himself and his writing. It was published ... Denmark offers free healthcare for everyone, as well as free education, job training, subsidized child care, and even fuel subsidies. Due to the immense social programs that Denmark offers, the country is viewed as a prime location to migrate. Thousands of refugees from the war zones in Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan seek asylum in Denmark in order to live a better life. Recently the Denmark Monarchy has been looking at ways to combat the large numbers of immigrants who have been entering their country in recent years. On January 26, 2016, Denmark passed a "Jewelry Law" allowing Denmark to seize all immigrants' possessions worth more than $1,450. What political ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Denmark's prosperity peaked during the Viking Age, as the pillaged their way into multiple villages and gained a vast majority of what is now United Kingdom land. Multiple centuries later, in the 14th century, a civil war broke out. The people in the Denmark Kingdom were furious over how much power the King's had over the people. The leader of Denmark at the time, Christoph II, gave up much of his power to please his people. The civil war efforts were shortsighted, however, as 20 years later Waldemar IV gave all power back to the King. Denmark became peaceful until about 200 years later, in the years 1534–1559 once again another civil war erupted within the Kingdom. A new monarch was set up that still exists today. • 21. Denmark and the Third Reich Denmark, a small country north of Germany was going about its normal routines as the strength of the Nazis under the Third Reich, the government led by Adolf Hitler, began to grow. Then in an instant it all changed. The Danes had signed a pact with Germany in 1939 and were completely taken by surprise when German airplanes flooded the skies. The Danish had no way to defend themselves and surrendered within hours on April 9, 1940. Hitler had planned to take Denmark because he had found that it had many advantages to go along with his plans. The Danes represented the "perfect" race, the Aryans. Also, and more importantly it was closer to Swedish war supplies, and to Great Britain to allow for attacks. Lastly, it was close to Norway which was Hitler's second target after the invasion of Denmark. Although approximately 7,000 Jews were saved during the Danish Resistance, the acts were not necessary because of the protection Germany provided to Denmark, the problems associated with politics and the economy because of the resistance, and lastly the division of the people in Denmark because of their different views on how to approach the arising issue. The protection that Germany provided to the Danish during the occupation of the region is very significant. Although the Germans did take over and occupy the country of Denmark the leaders of Germany told and allowed the king of Denmark at the time to remain in his position as the head ruler and go on about their daily lives as they ... Ravinder Kaur Who Says You Re A Dane Summary In the article "who says you're a dane?" author Ravinder Kaur takes a deep and Poignant look at the state of immigration and what it means to be "Danish" within the Danish culture and Danish politics. Throughout the article, Kaur provides numerous premises and pieces of evidence to support her two–part conclusion. The first part of the conclusion is that "Being a meaningful contributor to society was once deemed valuable in Denmark, enough to provide a sense of belonging. But now, it's the bloodline that matters." As well as the second part of the conclusion which is that "An anti– immigrant stance in Denmark is now neither masked in clumsy euphemisms nor accompanied by halfhearted gestures of conciliation toward the "New Danes". The message is now delivered rough and raw by a new generation of outspoken politicians". In her article, Kaur provides three statements by three different Danish politicians to premise her conclusion. The first premise she presents is a statement from Martin Henriksen, the chairman of a parliamentary committee on immigration, integration, and housing. On a televised exchange Henriksen said "This is not how one becomes Danish, one can't say ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 29. Essay Similarities Between Hamlet And Beowulf Both Shakespeare's Hamlet and R.M. Liuzza's translation of Beowulf are classic tragedies that both tell the story of a young man ridding Denmark of a malicious monster, which ultimately ends in their death. However, that is where the majority of Hamlet and Beowulf similarities end. Shakespeare's famous tragedy revolves around a young prince expressing his inner feelings and plans towards revenge on his murderous uncle throughout his many soliloquies. This self–reflective attitude towards oneself is not seen in Beowulf and instead, jumps straight into defending one's honor through physical battle and seeking revenge with little contemplation. Although both characters successfully execute their revenge on their respective monster(s), Hamlet and Beowulf's journey towards this finale differentiates through their individual hamartia, which ultimately leads to their deaths. Beowulf's tragic flaw is evidently, his hubris. It leads him to overestimate his strength and let pride come in the way of his safety. The beginning of the poem quickly showcased Beowulf's belief that only he can save the Danish people from Grendel the monster. He reveals this when telling the thane of Hrothgar, "I can counsel Hrothgar, advise him how...he may overcome this fiend...or else forever afterwards a time of anguish" (Beowulf 278–279, 283). Beowulf ultimately believes he is the Dane's only hope and without his aid, Hrothgar and his people will suffer. It seems as if he almost sees himself as a man of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fierceness in Beowulf and in The Saga of King Hrolf Kraki Is fierceness mentioned only in Beowulf or is it an element common also to this famous Icelandic saga? Is fierceness described the same way as in Beowulf? The Anglo–Saxons prior to 1000AD were as a race fierce. They possessed great courage. Beowulf reflects their fierceness and courage in a variety of ways. Beowulf complains to Unferth in the Danish court: "Grendel would never have done such horrors ... if you were so fierce as you suppose." The hero, who had earlier killed nine sea monsters, opted to face Grendel in mortal combat WITHOUT sword or shield or the assistance of others: "but I shall seize my enemy in my hand grip and fight." For example, it is not compulsory to stay eight hours at work to look serious or to do your job. You are completely free to manage your time as you want and to do your work at the office or at home. Usually, Danish people leave the office at 2pm and even earlier on Friday. There is no system to check at what time you are in and out of the company (as in France). There is no legislation that regulates working hours in the private sector, but it is stipulated in individual and collective labor contracts. An employee should not be required to work in excess of 48 hours per week for a period of 4 months, according to the EU directive on working time. In Denmark, lunch breaks last only 30 minutes and instead of going home, we take lunch with colleagues. The key for them is to do the work and to respect the deadline. The ... • 41. Denmark By Dan Buettner Summary In the Scandinavian country of Denmark, people tend to lead the happiest, stress free lives anywhere. The Danish people live a life without any rushing about, comparison, or competition. The citizens go about their lives doing there best not to stand out one from another. This of course is a very different idea than we are used to here in the United States. Here we want to smell the best, look the best, make ourselves memorable, least be be forgotten and just part of the crowd. Dan Buettner shares his experience of visiting a few cities within Denmark, and asked just a few questions of each person he encountered. He would ask, "what is it about their way of life that generates these positive feelings? And how is their sense of Happiness different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Danes feel and truly believe, "work gets itself done" (Buettner, 2011, p.41). The people only work a total of thirty seven hours a week and are sure to take up to six weeks of vacation a year. They work as little as possible, but enough to see a steady progress. The focus is on family, hobbies and clubs. Dan Buettner asked, about how the few hours and if they did see a loss of productivity as compared to the United States. The fact is that we as Americans do waists a lot of time while at work. We take a few breaks throughout the day, we check personal message while at work, mixing business and pleasure while in the office. He was told, "our work is important to our identities. But we get it done and go home to our families and friends" (Buettner, 2011, p.42). I personally love that idea, focus more and work when at work, then coming home and being more present with your family. This happened just this past weekend with our children and my husband. He is a supervisor at work, but even when we are out as a family, he is often pulled way to handle a work phone call. My job can do the same, a parent wants to talk to you about their child at my son's football game, or my boss will call with a question. Evidence will include sources such as websites. The Vikings were a seafaring people from the late eighth to early 11th century who established a name for themselves as traders, explorers and warriors. 'Viking' is the name by which the Scandinavian sea–borne raiders of the early medieval period are now commonly known. Even before the earliest Viking raids on the monasteries, the Anglo–Saxons used an Old English word 'wicing'. They also settled in the Faroe Islands, Ireland, Icel, America etc. There are several reasons why these Norsemen adopted Christianity. The Vikings came into contact with Christianity through their raids, and when they settled in lands with a Christian population, they adopted Christianity quite quickly. Even though the Vikings often seem to have maintained their beliefs throughout the periods of their raiding, there was considerable pressure to convert to Christianity if they wished to have more peaceful relations with the Christians. Another more or less formal convention applied to trade, since Christians were not really supposed to trade with pagans. Although a full conversion does not seem to have been demanded of all Scandinavian traders, the custom of 'primsigning' (first–signing) was introduced. This was a halfway step, falling short of baptism, but indicating some willingness to accept Christianity, and this was often deemed to be enough to allow trading. It became a political and economic advantage to be Christian to continue trading with the south. It has been three years after the war began, and like many other countries at the time, Germany had conquered Denmark. The German soldiers have occupied Denmark, and the soldiers were in every corner of the streets. The Nazi acquisition has changed Denmark in many ways. For example, the soldiers took many things such as coffee, butter, and sugar. Copenhagen had a curfew, and no citizens were allowed out after 8 o'clock. The Germans have also issued orders that closed stores owned by the Jews. Annemarie Johansen, an ordinary girl, lives during this period when things had changed for the worse. Her best friend, Ellen Rosen, is a Jew who also lived during this period. The Germans have taken synagogue lists of all the Jews, and the Rosens were on the list. The Nazis plan to arrest all the Danish Jews and take them away. The Rosens are no longer safe in Denmark. Because the Johansens and the Rosens are friends, so the Johansens decides to help them escape to Sweden, a free country that is close to Denmark. When Annemarie hears that the Germans have begun to torment the Jews, Annemarie says that she wants all of Denmark to be the bodyguards of the Jews, too. • 57. Religious Values In Hamlet Known for its artistic and spiritual appeal, the Renaissance was a period of European Reformation in between the English Civil Wars and the War of the Roses. Shakespeare, famous for his theatrical talent, thrived among the artists of this time while writing his production Hamlet. As pictured in Hamlet, this era of religious appreciation and repentance focused on the popular Renaissance idea of the Great Chain of Being, which is a strictly followed divine hierarchy in which every human has a place (Grandview.edu), much like the hierarchy of the monarchy form of government. Naturally, this took shape in Denmark's monarchical system, which is where the story of Hamlet takes place. Because of Denmark's uncommon political system, particularly two characters' lives were dramatically altered. After King Hamlet's death, Queen Gertrude wed with King Hamlet's brother, Claudius, who inherited the crown rather than young Hamlet. Seeing his mother's relationship as incestuous and adulterous, Hamlet represents the Renaissance ideals of biblical ideology, which greatly disdained the relationship. However, the hidden explanations of Denmark's political system and leverage by manipulation explain how the plot of Shakespeare's great story of revenge is possible. Due to Denmark's system of elective monarchy and a need for a strong patriarchal figure, Gertrude married Claudius, which in turn gave him the political support to usurp the election for power from Prince Hamlet away at college. ... The quote written by Shakespeare is one of the most known quotes in the world. From great scholars who have spent years studying works of Hamlet to the young adults who have never read a piece of Shakespearean literature. Almost everyone has heard or said this saying, but do they know what it means? The answer to that is not really. That saying is part of a great soliloquy, and people have been discussing what it truly means since Shakespeare has written it. However, throughout his stories ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the play, poison is significantly used by characters. The decision to use poison by characters, such as Claudius, a corrupt king, is a way that Shakespeare symbolizes the idea of decay and corruption. Throughout the play, poison was a part of every death. Even in the final act, when they were using a sword, poison was still placed on the tip. When Claudius was already dying, Hamlet said "Here thou incestuous, damned Dane/Drink of this potion. Is the union here?/Follow my mother" (Hamlet,5.2, Lines 300–305). Hamlet had taken the poison and forced Claudius, who was stabbed, to drink the poison. The reason that poison is so widely used is that, unlike any other weapon, poison slowly ruins the body just the way that the people of Denmark were negatively affected by the Claudius. Another way that the theme was developed was also in the final act. Claudius, who has a corrupt soul decided to place a pearl inside a cup which poisoned the drink. When corruption happens, especially to someone in power, corruption goes down a chain. This idea of placing poison in a cup illustrates Claudius' corruption ruining the kingdom the way that the poison had infected the cup. During the Elizabethan era, the philosophy that established social order was known as the "Concept of Order", stating that everything had its own place and contributed to a certain position. Elizabethans believed that establishing order was the only way for a civilization to function and progress. This philosophy that governed the minds of many individuals seems to have been a prevalent thought in Shakespeare's mind, the evidence being the recurring theme of the disorganization in social order. The disruption of social order, as described by the Great Chain of Being, was to be avoided, because the consequences would be destructive. The causes of this familial disorder are King Hamlet's murder, Gertrude's brief mourning of her deceased husband and Claudius and Gertrude's "o'erhasty marriage" (II.ii.57). Hamlet mourns the death of his father in a "conventional Elizabethan form", whereas, Claudius and Gertrude celebrate their marriage (Kirsch). The problems the Danish welfare state faces in terms of integrating immigrants are rooted in two interconnected phenomena. One is that the government and the public believe the continued success of Denmark depends on cultural homogeneity. The second is that policies of entry and integration have been inadequately geared to distinguishing between different "categories" of immigrants (e.g. economic migrants versus refugees, male versus female immigrants, Muslim versus non–Muslim), and have also been unprepared for the increase in the number of refugees and family dependents. The Role of the Holy Fool in the Context of Danish Cinema Introduction In Christian folklore, the holy fool is an archetypal figure that stands apart from society, elevated to a transcendent status based on his or her piety. Holy fools flout social norms, and are thus unable to be properly accommodated in their respective societies. With their position of outsider, holy fools are ideally suited to critique mainstream ideas and practices, acting as a narrative device to provide commentary on the world. Holy fools exist in a separate sphere from "regular" fools due to their associations with Christ figures. Christian tradition speaks of many famous holy fools, from nameless monks who give up all of their worldly possessions to become closer to Jesus, to characters of Biblical renown, such as Saint Paul (Thomas 2009: 204). The depiction of a holy fool is undoubtedly influenced by the religious climate of a society. Traditionally, holy fools have been part of Roman Catholic and Orthodox faiths, where saints have traditionally been revered for their ability to follow God in the most extreme fashion so that they appear foolish to the majority of society that is less in tune with God's wishes. In Denmark, Protestant traditions dominate the religious landscape, so the depiction of the holy fool must be adjusted accordingly. In order to understand the role of the holy fool in the context of Danish cinema, it is first necessary to look at the role of religion in Danish society. Suicide in Greenland and Denmark Suicide in Greenland and Denmark: a Cross–cultural Comparison Introduction The topic of suicide of interest because socially it is not quite understood yet and mostly, the attitudes towards the act are generally negative or perceived as taboo. The focus on Greenland was chosen because of the folklore story called "Qivittoq" that illustrates a different attitude towards suicide than one is used to. Therefore, it would be interesting to explore whether this folklore story explains suicide in Greenland and how it compares to a country with a historical link to Greenland: Denmark. The countries in focus will be Greenland and Denmark, mainly because of their link through colonisation in the 1700s, but also Greenland is still part of the Kingdom of Denmark today, thus there are still ties connected the two cultures. Therefore, there should be a basis of similarities, as well as some differences between the two. Which leads to the question: How do attitudes towards suicide differ between habitants of Greenland compared to Denmark? The paper will delve into some of the differences between the two countries and then outline some causes for the high suicide rate in Greenland, namely; social and cultural change, alcohol consumption, seasonal variation and "Qivittoq". WAYS IN WHICH ENGINEERS HAVE CONSIDERED THE IMPACT ON SOCIETY OF ORESUND BRIDGE (WONG MING MING) Relationship between Two Countries The Oresund Bridge was agreed to build after the Danish and Swedish governments signed the final agreement of building Oresund Bridge in year 1991. The considerations of the impact of Oresund Bridge were being made such as using this link to promote commuting and the exchange of culture between Copenhagen in Denmark and Malmo in Sweden (Oresundsbro Konsortiet 2008, p. 2). Engineers believed that culture exchange between Sweden and Denmark can make their relationship even closer by knowing each other's culture. For the culture of Sweden, Swedes normally are egalitarian, which means that Swedes are the person who supports the principle of equality for all people (Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary 2014). Swedes are humble and cannot accept boasting (Sweden–language, culture, customs and etiquette 2013). Swedes often give thanks and their behaviours are strongly balanced towards moderation. Swedes work hard but not too hard and they will go enjoy themselves without participating in something which is extreme. Also, due to the strong egalitarianism, competition is not encouraged in Sweden. Meanwhile in Denmark, the Danes are being called as the world's happiest people. One of the most interesting, modern, fictional heroes that we have seen is the Batman played by Christian Bale, otherwise known as the Dark Knight in the Dark Knight series. Even after more than a thousand years since the creation of the epic poem Beowulf, similar characteristics of the character Beowulf are still seen in fictional heroes such as Batman. Although on the surface Beowulf and Batman seem very different, many of their basic characteristics are very similar including their motivation, the people that doubted them, their love for their homeland, and the personal sacrifices that they made for the greater good. This juxtaposition is proof that humans throughout history have gone through the same thought process when creating their heroes. One of the many similarities between Batman and Beowulf is their origins. Batman and Beowulf alike were born and raised in the city/kingdom that he aimed to protect. Because of this similarity, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Batman this is more true than in Beowulf, but nonetheless, the archetype remains strong in both stories. In Beowulf, only one person, a man named Unferth, seems to truly doubt the hero when he questions his past successes. This dubious man is soon silenced by a simple conversation where Beowulf proves him wrong. This aspect of both heroes definitely seems to be more complicated with Batman. Instead of only one or a few people expressing serious doubt in Batman's ability, it is almost the entire city that expresses concern. Batman only has a few people that believe in him including Commissioner Gordon, Batman's butler Alfred, and a few citizens of Gotham. Despite their differences, Batman and Beowulf both contain one of the key elements in a hero's story; people who try to pull them down, and the people who express nothing but ... Reputation is the acknowledgment by other people of some characteristic. Although having a good reputation is very important to many people nowadays. It is also important to people who lived many centuries ago. In the poem Beowulf, having a righteous reputation is very important and greatly valued by many characters, especially to Danish people, Beowulf, Grendel, and Grendel's mother. To begin with, the reader first notices the importance of reputation in the poem when Beowulf and his twelve warriors land on the Danish shores. As they are getting down from the ship, a Danish watcher sees them and goes up to them to see who they are. The lieutenant asks Beowulf who he is, and why he is coming to his coast. Beowulf replies by saying, "We... follow Higlac, my father was a famous soldier...men all over the earth...remember him." (156–163) Then, the lieutenant figures out that Beowulf has a good reputation. Therefore, he allows Beowulf and his men to enter the Danish shores, and he leads them to Hrothgar. This incident shows the reader that reputation is very important, and if a character has a bad reputation, he would not be welcomed into other kingdoms. Moreover, Beowulf meets Hrothgar, they start talking. Beowulf starts listing his achievements and the things he had done.
