In today's hyper-connected world, content is almost a non-issue. When we click on the web, tons of educational resources can be found in websites, blogs, YouTube and in medical education, a recent crowd-sourcing, crowd-sharing concept has emerged - FOAM (Free Online Access Meducation). In recent years, I've got caught up with the FOAM virus too! In this set of slides, I recommend the resources that I've found useful. There are many many more out there, but I think these are the ones that should help a resident or a physician in emergency medicine get started on FOAM, embark on a life-long learning, and use them for blended learning or flipped learning as well.

4. The Philosophy of FOAM
If you want to know how we practiced medicine 5 years
ago, read a textbook.
If you want to know how we practiced medicine 2 years
ago, read a journal.
If you want to know how we practice medicine now, go to
a (good) conference.
If you want to know how we will practice medicine in the
future, listen in the hallways and use FOAM.

5. FOAM Podcast:
Emergency Medicine Cases
Emergency Medicine Cases (EM Cases) is a free online medical education podcast,
medical blog and website dedicated to providing online emergency medicine
education and CME for physicians, residents, students nurses and paramedics. One
of Canadaās most listened to emergency medicine podcast hosted by Dr. Anton
Helman. In each podcast 2 or more experts in a particular emergency medicine
topic join Dr. Helman in a round-table, case-based discussion on key practice
changing clinical emergency medicine topics, which are then carefully edited to
maximize your learning.

6. FOAM Podcast:
The Skepticsā Guide to EM
Hosted by Ken Milne, much of the content is focused on the Best Evidence in
Emergency Medicine (BEEM) process. The goal of the SGEM is to cut the knowledge
translation window from over 10 years down to less than 1 year. It does this by using
social media to provide high quality, clinically relevant, critically appraised, evidence
based information.

Donāt let this dull-looking picture deceives you! Hosted by 2 emergency medicine
residents, this FOAM podcast essentially is a review of other FOAM podcasts and tie
the contents of the reviewed podcasts to core contents (including textbooks contents
like Tintinalliās and Rosenās), providing some review and references for listeners to
read on their own, as well as board review questions donated by Adam Rosh of the
Rosh Review. Very suitable for residents/postgraduate students. Also great for
emergency physicians, even medical studentsā¦in fact, everybody!

8. FOAM Podcast: EM Res
An educational resource for emergency medicine residents, emergency practitioners,
and instructors of EM Residents. The goal of this podcast is to help EM residents in US

9. FOAM Podcast: EM BASIC
EM Basic is one it says it is: basics of emergency medicine made for medical students
and emergency medicine interns. Each podcast starts exactly how a patient
interaction in the ED starts- with a chief complaint. From there, important points of
the patientās history and physical exam, the workup, and the basic treatment and
disposition of each chief complaint in the ED will be discussed; all in 30 minute easy to
digest audio podcasts. I personally find the host Steve Carroll, a little monotonous to
listen to. But it has good sets of show notes. The master file of show notes can be
downloaded in MSDoc here: http://tinyurl.com/ov4vpfc and in pdf here:
