Doxol (Doxycycline Hyclate tablets) are a
tetracycline-class anti bacterial used for the
treatment of Rickettsial infections, Sexually
transmitted infections , Respiratory tract
infections, Specific bacterial infections ,
Ophthalmic infections, Anthrax, including
inhalational anthrax (post-exposure), Alternative
treatment for selected infections when
penicillin is contraindicated, Adjunctive therapy
in acute intestinal amebiasis and severe acne
and Prophylaxis of malaria.

Doxycycline Hyclate tablets are
available as Doryx, Vibramycin,
Monodox, Doxol, Doxt , Doxt-S, Doxy-1,
Tetradox, Geeox, Microdox, Ceedox,
Codox, Doxodin and Biodoxi.
4. Active Ingredient

The active ingredient contained in Doxol is
Doxycycline Hyclate. Each tablet of Doxol
contains 100 mg of Doxycycline.
6. Uses of Doxol Tablets

Doxol (Doxycycline Hyclate tablets) is used
to treat nose, ears, lung, skin, bone,
stomach and bladder, chest, urethra, womb
and rectum infections. Generic Doxycycline
Hyclate tablets may be used in combination
with amoebicides, which are used to treat
parasites. Doxol tablets are also used to
treat dental infections, severe acne and
sexually-transmitted diseases (STD) such as
syphilis or gonorrhoea. This medicine can
also be used for the treatment and
prevention of malaria as well as anthrax.
7. Doxycycline Hyclate Dosage

➢The normal adult dose of oral Doxycycline
(Doxol tablets) is 200 mg on the first day of
treatment (administered as 100 mg every 12
hours or 50 mg every 6 hours) followed by a
maintenance dose of 100 mg daily. The
maintenance dose may be administered as a
single dose or as 50 mg every 12 hours. In the
management of more severe infections
(particularly chronic infections of the urinary
tract), 100 mg every 12 hours is recommended.

➢For pediatric patients above eight years of age: The
recommended dose for children weighing 45 kg or
below is 4.4 mg/kg of body weight divided into two
doses on the first day of treatment, followed by 2.2
mg/kg of body weight given as a single daily dose or
divided into two doses on subsequent days. For more
severe infections up to 4.4 mg/kg of body weight can
be used. For children more than 45 kg, the usual adult
dose should be used.

Doxol (Doxycycline Hyclate tablets)
have to be stored at controlled room
temperature i.e. from 20°C to 25°C (68°F
to 77°F) with excursions permitted
between 15° to 30°C (59° to 86°F).
Keep this as well as all other medicines
away from children and pets.

The use of Tetracycline-class medicines
during tooth development (last half of
pregnancy, infancy and childhood to the age of
8 years) may cause permanent discoloration of
the teeth.
Clostridium difficile associated diarrhea (CDAD)
has been reported with use of nearly all
antibacterial agents, including Doxol
(Doxycycline Hyclate tablets), and may range in
severity from mild diarrhea to fatal colitis.
Photosensitivity manifested by an exaggerated
sunburn reaction has been observed in some
individuals taking Tetracyclines.

As with other antibacterial preparations, use of
Doxol can result in overgrowth of non-susceptible
organisms, including fungi.
Intracranial hypertension (IH, pseudotumor cerebri)
has been associated with the use of tetracycline
including Doxol (Doxycycline Hyclate tablets).
Avoid concomitant use of Isotretinoin and Doxol
because isotretinoin is also known to cause
pseudotumor cerebri.
All tetracyclines form a stable calcium complex in
any bone-forming tissue. A decrease in fibula growth
rate has been observed in prematures given oral
tetracycline in doses of 25 mg/kg every six hours.
The antianabolic action of the tetracyclines may
cause an increase in blood urea nitrogen (BUN).

Doxycycline offers substantial but not
complete suppression of the asexual blood
stages of Plasmodium strains.
Prescribing Doxol (Doxycycline tablets),in the
absence of a proven or strongly suspected
bacterial infection or a prophylactic indication
is unlikely to provide benefit to the patient and
increases the risk of the development of drug-
resistant bacteria.

Contraindications
Doxol is contraindicated in patients with a
hypersensitivity to Doxycycline Hyclate or any
other component of this medication or to any
other tetracycline, and in patients with
myasthenia gravis.

➢Common Doxol (Doxycycline Hyclate
tablets) side effects can include
nasopharyngitis, sinusitis, anorexia,
nausea, diarrhoea, glossitis, dysphagia,
enterocolitis, hypertension, aspartate
aminotransferase increase and
inflammatory lesions in the anogenital
region.
15. Doxycycline Tablets Overdose

An overdose with this medicine will cause
nausea and vomiting, along with any of the
usual Doxycycline side effects.

In case of Doxycycline overdosage,
discontinue medication, treat
symptomatically and institute supportive
measures. Dialysis does not change the
serum half-life and thus would not be of
any use in treating cases of overdosage.

Doxycycline Hyclate (Doxol tablets) has
been classified by the US FDA as
Pregnancy Category D.
Results from animal studies indicate that
Doxycycline crosses the placenta and is
found in fetal tissues.
Tetracyclines are excreted in human milk.
Because of the potential for serious
adverse reactions in infants from
Doxycycline, Doxol 100 mg must not be
used in mothers who breastfeed.
