Forcan (Fluconazole Tablets)is used to prevent and treat
a variety of fungal and yeast infections. It is used in the
treatment of Vaginal candidiasis, Oropharyngeal and
oesophageal candidiasis, urinary tract infections,
peritonitis and systemic Candida infections, including
candidaemia, disseminated candidiasis and pneumonia.

Fluconazole tablets are available as
Diflucan,Forcan, Nuforce, Adocon,
Concize,Fabizol, Flucess,Flumed and
Zocon.
4. Active Ingredient

The active ingredient contained in Forcan is
Fluconazole. Each uncoated Forcan tablet
contains 150 mg or 200 mg of Fluconazole
respectively.
6. Uses of Fluconazole Tablets

Forcan (Fluconazole tablets) is used to treat
certain fungal and yeast infections. This
medicine works by stopping the growth of
the fungal and yeast organisms that cause
the infection. Generic Fluconazole (Forcan
Tablets) is used to treat Vaginal candidiasis,
Oropharyngeal and oesophageal
candidiasis, urinary tract infections,
peritonitis and systemic Candida infections,
including candidaemia, disseminated
candidiasis, pneumonia and Cryptococcal
meningitis.

Forcan (Fluconazole tablets) is also used to
decrease the incidence of candidiasis in
patients undergoing bone marrow
transplantation who receive cytotoxic
chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy.
8. Storage Instructions

Forcan (Fluconazole Tablets) have to be
stored at controlled room temperature
i.e. from 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F)
with excursions permitted between 15°
to 30°C (59° to 86°F).
Keep this as well as all other medicines
away from children and pets.

Inform your doctor in case you are allergic
to this medicine or to other azole antifungal
drugs (such as ketoconazole, itraconazole);
or if you have any other allergies.
Before using Forcan tablets, inform your
doctor or pharmacist your medical history,
especially of: liver disease, kidney disease.
Fluconazole may cause a condition that
affects the heart rhythm (QT prolongation).
QT prolongation can rarely cause serious
(rarely fatal) fast/irregular heartbeat and other
symptoms (such as severe dizziness, fainting)
that require medical attention right away.

➢Vaginal Candidiasis: The recommended dosage
of Generic Diflucan for vaginal candidiasis is 150
mg as a single oral dose.
➢Oropharyngeal Candidiasis: The recommended
dosage of Generic Diflucan for oropharyngeal
candidiasis is 200 mg on the first day, followed by
100 mg once daily.
➢Esophageal Candidiasis: The recommended
dosage of Generic Fluconazole for esophageal
candidiasis is 200 mg on the first day, followed by
100 mg once daily.
The dosage of Forcan tablets (Fluconazole) is
given below. It does not matter if you take this
medicine before or after food.

➢ Systemic Candida infections: In the case of
systemic Candida infections including candidemia,
disseminated candidiasis, and pneumonia, optimal
therapeutic dosage and duration of therapy have not
been established and dosages of up to 400 mg daily
have been used.
➢Cryptococcal meningitis: The recommended dosage
for treatment of acute cryptococcal meningitis is 400
mg on the first day, followed by 200 mg once daily.
➢Prophylaxis in patients undergoing bone marrow
transplantation: The recommended Generic
Fluconazole daily dosage for the prevention of
candidiasis in patients undergoing bone marrow
transplantation is 400 mg, once daily.

Contraindications
Forcan is contraindicated in patients with a
hypersensitivity to Fluconazole or to other
azoles or any other component of this medication.
Coadministration of Terfenadine is
contraindicated in patients receiving Forcan
(Generic Fluconazole) at multiple doses of 400
mg or higher.
Coadministration of other drugs known to prolong
the QT interval and which are metabolized via the
enzyme CYP3A4 such as cisapride, astemizole,
erythromycin, pimozide, and quinidine are
contraindicated in patients receiving fluconazole.

➢The most common Generic Fluconazole side effects
reported in the patients who received 150 mg single dose
Fluconazole for vaginitis were headache (13%), nausea (7%),
and abdominal pain (6%). Other side effects reported with an
incidence equal to or greater than 1% included diarrhea (3%),
dyspepsia (1%), dizziness (1%), and taste perversion (1%).
Most of the reported side effects were mild to moderate in
severity.
➢The clinical side effects occurred at an incidence of 1% or
greater in patients receiving Generic Fluconazole (Forcan
Tablets) for 7 or more days in clinical trials: nausea 3.7%,
headache 1.9%, skin rash 1.8%, vomiting 1.7%, abdominal
pain 1.7%, and diarrhea 1.5%.
➢Serious side effects are rare. However get medical help
immediately if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic
reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the
face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.
14. Fluconazole Overdose

There have been reports of Fluconazole
overdose. The overdose symptoms that
have been observed include hallucination
and paranoid behavior.

In the event of Fluconazole overdose,
symptomatic treatment (with supportive
measures and gastric lavage if clinically
indicated) should be instituted.
Fluconazole is mostly excreted in urine.
A three-hour hemodialysis session
decreases plasma levels of Fluconazole by
approximately 50%.
16. Fluconazole During Pregnancy

Forcan (Fluconazole Tablets) has been
classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy
Category C.
Animal reproduction studies have shown
an adverse effect on the fetus and there
are no adequate and well-controlled
studies in human pregnancy, but potential
benefits may warrant use of the drug in
pregnant women despite potential risks.
