The document discusses predictions for the future of user experience design in 2030 based on current technological trends. It suggests that augmented reality, virtual reality, voice control and other interfaces will become major platforms, requiring new design skills. It also predicts that artificial intelligence will perform much of the design work, and that designers will need skills in coding, data analysis, systems design and business strategy to remain relevant. The document advises designers to continuously learn new skills, think beyond just design, and prepare for their role to evolve significantly over the next decade.

Many have tried to predict the future.
Few were right.
It is likely that I am not one of them.

It is a new landscape.
AR, VR and Chat interfaces
will become huge.
Voice control likely.
Brain interfaces perhaps.
This means new methods,
best practices, processes,
design principles, and tools.

The UX Designer title will go.
It is poorly defined and
makes no longer sense with
the diversity of platforms ,
focus on user experience and
complexity of topics.
Good riddance.

But there will be many new
designer jobs.
Like voice dialogue designer,
AI designer, Virtual interface
designer, haptic feedback
designer, computational designer,
algorithm designer, organization
designer, data design strategist
and more.

33. 3.
Everyone is a designer.
Tools, defaults and
templates will be good
enough 80% of the time.
Smart data driven tools will
do the rest.

Our design tools will be
nothing like we have now.
New tools will focus on the
design logic, enabling more
flexibility and speed.

Design will be all about
systems not instances.
With personalization,

mostly defined by
algorithms you need to
understand more of how
they work.

Business thinking will be a

If you want to work on a

46. Always be learning
Learning is an essential skill for a designer now
and in the future. Use your own personal projects
to apply and improve your new skills.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR 2030
47. Broaden your horizon
Look beyond the design world. Explore other fields.
Like psychology, engineering, hardware prototyping,
biology, architecture, mathematics, art, history or
whatever piques your interest. Connect fields
together and bring them to your designs.
Share the results with the world.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR 2030
48. Keep up your soft skills
You will need them as you collaborate more and more
with other parts of organizations and other fields.
Become excellent at running workshops, collaboration,
ideation and design thinking.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR 2030
49. Design the system and work with data
In everything you design consider the larger system
and design for that. Explore the data and let that
inform your designs.
Get away from designing static screens.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR 2030
50. Understand business basics and strategy
As good design becomes more essential to business
success, you will have to have a better understanding
of how business works to succeed.
No need for an MBA but you should be able to
connect your design to the value proposition and the
business model of the organization.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR 2030
51. Learn to code
It is a cliché but true. Being able to code (a bit) is a
very valuable skill. But look beyond HTML, Javascript
and PHP. Consider Python, R, Node.js or Arduino.
Or whatever comes along between now and 2030.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR 2030
52. Define your own set of design ethics
As systems become more data driven, personal and
efficient acting ethically becomes crucial.
Think critically about your role as a designer and what
you think is the right course of action. Stick to it.
