2. Introduction Swine flu is a very dangerous virus that has infected the United States. Swine flu has been in the United States since last April. Swine flu is what is called a global killer meaning, its worldwide and it has attributed to deaths.
3. Introduction Continued H1N1 Is otherwise known as Swine Flu The name Swine came from the fact the humans inherited the flu from pigs. The symptoms are that of the “regular flu”. Things like an upset stomach, sore throat, fatigue, vomiting, and diarrhea.
4. Background Information Some people are more at risk than others. More at risk people are those who have asthma, any types of organ disease, women who are pregnant and various other risks. Swine flu can be obtained just like any other flu. You could get it from germs and it is also airborne.
5. Background Information cont. Swine flu can be treated. Treatments for swine flu are usually taken nasally. Deaths that occur from swine flu usually are co-infections meaning the swine flu caused other infections the body couldn’t handle.
6. Background Information cont. Swine flu as effected may school systems because it has caused multiple closings. Schools are the “perfect” place to get swine flu since its so easy to exchange germs. According to the Dep. Of Ed. One fifth of the U.S. population attends/works at schools. To prevent swine flu you should remember to wash your hands often, get plenty of rest, and keep your surroundings very clean.
7. Swine K-12 Swine flu has effected schools greatly in the simple fact that it has closed so many for days at a time Swine can’t be avoided, anyone can catch it and that is why it is so dangerous. Swine flu has closed 194 schools in Michigan alone. And has effected 71,666 kids.
8. Swine K-12 Mount Pleasant has had the biggest problem with swine flu in the state. Mount Pleasant has closed 11 schools with 3,895 confirmed cases. There is only enough vaccination to treat at-risk patients
9. Swine K-12 Schools are pretty unsafe when it comes to Swine because no where is safe and kids pass germs at an amazing rate. While at school kids should avoid rubbing their eyes, avoid close contact, and wash their hands often. Teachers should sanitize their room 2 to 3 times a day and take normal precautions.
10. Whats Being Done About Swine? Nothing is being done about swine on a legislative level for schools. Legislation was passed that said closing schools is the discretion of officials. It is unknown how long this flu will last but as long as we have a vaccination it shouldn’t become more of a problem than it is.
11. Conclusion Swine flu is nothing to kid about (pun intended). This is a very dangerous virus. Swine flu can kill so everyone needs to take the proper precaution to ensure they don’t get it. Wash your hands!!!
