SLAT is a new feature in today’s CPU on top of Virtualization support (Intel-V, AMD-V etc) to improve VM performance while reducing processing load on the hypervisor by removing the need for the hypervisor to maintain shadow page tables for each VM mapping virtual memory to physical memory.
OLTP workload1 Watt = US$1 per year saving… Depending of the workload, R2 uses up to 118 W less than W2k3, that US$100 saving per machine, per year. With Windows Server 2008 R2 you can see an improvement in power efficiency of up to 18% over WS2003 depending on the specifics of your hardware and workloadSlight improvements from WS08 SP2 (as SP2 has a number of WS08 R2 features back-ported).
R2 continues the focus on power efficiency started by W2K8 RTM using Balanced power policy by default (but we do it even better in R2). R2 is willing to sacrifice a little bit of performance if it means a significant power gain (by default), but the High Performance policy is appropriate if you need every bit of perf out of a system. Should also make the point in the text that this is a specific, relatively new hardware platform and that others will vary
