            What is Mesh Topology ?

             Why Mesh Topology ?

         Types of Mesh Topology !?

      Advantages and Disadvantages !?

Mean of this topic with Q&As !?
What is Mesh Topology ?

A communications network having two
or more paths to any node.

A type of networking where
each node must not only capture and
disseminate its own data, but also
serve as a relay for other nodes, that
is, it must collaborate to propagate the
data in the network.
Why Mesh Topology?

        Network topology is used
initially for planning the best
way to design your network to
get maximum performance,
once installed topology is a
great asset in trouble shooting.
Types of Mesh Topology !

            • Provides a direct link between each pair of nodes (routers) on
the backbone network. Full mesh topologies provide the
highest level of fault tolerance but increase the computational
strain on dynamic routers for calculating their routing tables. A
  1. Full full mesh network with N routers would have N factorial paths
              (1 x 2 x 3 x … x N) to calculate.
mesh • In this, like a true mesh, each component is connected to
topology: every other component. Even after considering the
redundancy factor and cost of this network, its main
advantage is that the network traffic can be redirected to other
nodes if one of the nodes goes down. Full mesh topology is
              used only for backbone networks.
Full Mesh
Topology !
• Includes some redundant data paths to
provide some level of fault tolerance. This is
the more usual implementation in large
                    internetworks.
                  • This is far more practical as compared to full
2. Partial Mesh mesh topology. Here, some of the systems
are connected in similar fashion as in mesh
Topology:- topology while rests of the systems are only
connected to 1 or 2 devices. It can be said
that in partial mesh, the workstations are
‘indirectly’ connected to other devices. This
one is less costly and also reduces
                    redundancy.
Partial Mesh
 Topology !
Advantages and Disadvantages !

                     Advantages of Mesh topology

   1) Data can be transmitted from different devices simultaneously. This
   topology can withstand high traffic.
   2) Even if one of the components fails there is always an alternative
present. So data transfer doesn’t get affected.
   3) Expansion and modification in topology can be done without
   disrupting other nodes.

                   Disadvantages of Mesh topology
   1) There are high chances of redundancy in many of the network
   connections.
   2) Overall cost of this network is way too high as compared to other
   network topologies.
   3) Set-up and maintenance of this topology is very difficult. Even
administration of the network is tough.
