Educational Workshops - Katahdin Hair Sheep International is once again excited to provide an excellent educational
program. We have several producers with practical knowledge as well as sheep extension specialists and researchersall
helping us learn how to raise and market sheep. Even if you have attended before,it is definitely time to attend again and
if you have not been to one of our Expo programs, it is past time. Our speakers have lots of experience talking to
producers. Moderate registration fees make this program a valuable investment.
Dr. Temple Grandin - Dr. Temple Grandin will be the Expo’s keynote speaker at 3:15 p.m. Friday August 16. Dr.
Grandin became a prominent author and speaker on both autism and animal behavior. Today she is a professor of
Animal Science at Colorado State University. She also has a successfulcareer consulting on both livestock handling
equipment design and animal welfare. She has been featured on NPR (National Public Radio) and a BBC Special – "The
Woman Who Thinks Like a Cow". She has also appeared on National TV shows such as Larry King Live, 20/20, Sixty
Minutes, Fox and Friends, and she has a 2010 TED talk. Articles about Dr. Grandin have appeared in Time Magazine,
New York Times, Discover Magazine, Forbes and USA Today. HBO made an Emmy Award winning movie about her
life and she was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2016.
2nd International Katahdin Congress - A group of prominent international Katahdin breeders will be featured as part
of the 2nd annual International Katahdin Congress.
KHSI Annual Meeting – Will be held 4:30 p.m. Friday August 16. Please attend and have a voice in your association.
Katahdin National - Expo Sale – 15th
Annual Sale on Saturday August 17 at 11:30 AM.
Visit and buy from leading flocks in the U.S. They will be on display starting Thursday afternoon. The
Expo Sale catalog provides excellent background information on each consigned sheep. Catalog will be
available by mid -July with links at the KHSI website at: https://www.katahdins.org/expo/ or Willoughby
Livestock Sales at: https://www.wlivestock.com/pages/9114.
Meals - Three meals are included in the program from Thursday evening prior to the education
program through Friday evening. Lunch and dinner with lamb will be served on Friday. On Friday
evening dessert will be available at the sale barn. Pick up a dish or cone of ice cream and view the sale
animals. All are welcome for the ice cream social.
