The expert consultation on the use of crop wild relatives for pre-breeding in potato was a workshop organized by the Global Crop Diversity Trust in collaboration with CIP and took place from the 22nd – 24th of February 2012.

hybrid stocks to be built up, using as a basis
some of the most economically important
wild and native cultivated species and
incorporating all the necessary qualities of
disease-resistance with moderate yield and
high fertility. It would then only be necessary
for the potato breeder to use these basic
stocks without having to return to the wild
species in every case.”
