GOALS OF THE SESSION

 Services like Foursquare are location -based social networking
  websites for mobile devices. Users "check in" at venues and offer
  tips or reviews about the location. Check -ins can award user
  points, sometimes "badges", and even " Mayorships" for a
  location.

     This session will cover how to claim/create sites in Foursquare and Yelp
     How to manage the site
     Statistics provided
     Ideas for how to use these services with your library patrons
ROLES YOU CAN TAKE

 Ignore: Not try to control the site, let library users do
  what they will

 Passive: Create an account, claim your site(s), correct
  information, moderate

 Active: Create, claim, correct, moderate, and connect

                                     You’ll be asked to enter your
                                      phone number
                                        automated system will call you and
                                         you will be asked to state both your

                                     To gain instant management access
                                      of your listing, you can choose
                                      Expedited Verification. It requires
                                      a one-time fee of $1
                                     OR proceed with verification
                                      through postal mail (3 -4 weeks)

  • 2. GOALS OF THE SESSION  Services like Foursquare are location -based social networking websites for mobile devices. Users "check in" at venues and offer tips or reviews about the location. Check -ins can award user points, sometimes "badges", and even " Mayorships" for a location.  This session will cover how to claim/create sites in Foursquare and Yelp  How to manage the site  Statistics provided  Ideas for how to use these services with your library patrons
  • 3. ROLES YOU CAN TAKE  Ignore: Not try to control the site, let library users do what they will  Passive: Create an account, claim your site(s), correct information, moderate   Active: Create, claim, correct, moderate, and connect
  • 4. UCI GEOLOCATION PILOT  Started with 4 services in 9/2011  Foursquare  Yelp  Gowalla  Google Places  Currently mainstreaming two services  Foursquare  Yelp
