2. AN INVITATION FOR THE SEARCH FOR A DESIGNER FOR A
CHAPEL IN CEBU BUSINESS PARK

3. INTRODUCTION
 Cebu Holdings, Inc. is looking for a designer for a proposed chapel in Cebu
Business Park.
 The designer will be selected from invited designers who can comply with
the following requirements:
 Submit a profile of their design practice.
 Present initial design concepts for the said chapel.

4. CEBU PARK DISTRICT
 Cebu Park District refers to the integrated brand identity of Cebu Business
Park and Cebu I.T. Park. Each one is a complete destination comprising a
dynamic whole. The ICON that represents this identity conveys the promise
of growth, a representation of a balanced approach to all aspects of living.
The Cebu Park District’s identity will serve to magnify each park’s best-in-
class positioning and value proposition of being the premier district for
business, leisure and living.
 More than just a business and I.T. hub in Cebu City, Cebu Park District is a
community. There are several aspects that define a healthy community.
One very significant aspect is SPIRITUAL. The people of Cebu City is
predominantly Catholic. Thus, there is necessity to provide for a place that
defines the spiritual needs of the community. The best way to provide for
that need is to have a chapel within Cebu Business Park.
 In relation to this, the image of Our Lady Queen of the Visayas used to be
in Ayala Heights Cebu. Due to certain circumstances, there is a need to
transfer her to a new home. Aside from providing CPD with a venue to
nourish its spiritual growth, more importantly this chapel will also be
dedicated to the Our Lady Queen of the Visayas.

5. THE CHAPEL DESIGN REQUIREMENTS/CONSIDERATIONS:
1. A Chapel at the park. It should seem to be part of the landscape.
2. It should have a dignified presence fit for a shrine dedicated to Our Lady Queen of the Visayas
but it shouldn’t overwhelm the rest of the park.
3. Dignified interior space. Interiors should inspire prayer (not overly modern or too focus on the
design)
4. The chapel may seat a 10-person (more or less) congregation indoors and with maximized
outdoor overflow. Activities may be daily Mass, garden wedding
5. There may be non-religious events outside (but within the park) but the sacredness of the
chapel should not be diminished.
6. Provide a full-sized altar for Holy Mass (even big Masses). Provide for a possible tabernacle.
Indoor space may be air-conditioned.
7. Provide a confessional and sacristy (may be in a separate structure). Office space is optional
(The Chapel is not envisioned to be a parish church).
8. This is a shrine dedicated to Our Lady Queen of the Visayas. Have a place for the icon.
9. Comply with all regulations (National Building Code, Zoning, etc) for parking, toilet facilities
(may be a separate structure), etc.
10. Easy to maintain (leak proof design, tropical climate consideration)
11. Include an option for a modern or minimalist design with a touch of baroque or renaissance for
the interior reredo

8. REQUIRED OUTPUT(MAY BE IN ELECTRONIC SLIDES OR HARDCOPY)
 Background of the design practice (history, partners and staff composition,
design and project portfolio)
 A presentation showing design concepts plans, sketches, and images that
could briefly and clearly show the proposed design for the Chapel.
 Other presentation materials (if deemed necessary)

9. GENERAL AGREEMENT
 Invited designers will be given at least three weeks to prepare a concept
presentation. They may be invited to present in person to Cebu Holdings,
Inc. (CHI) in Cebu or presentation may be done via video conference (for
consultants who are not based in Cebu).
 Three designers may be selected and ask to further refine and present
again their design concepts. This will lead to the selection of the designer
for the Chapel.
 CHI reserves the right to reject or not pursue any of the presented design
or even with the project.
 Presentation materials will remain to be the property of the designers and
will not be required to be submitted to CHI (in the case where they will be
presented in person)
 No fee will be collected from the invited designers.
 All expenses related to the concept design preparation and presentation
including but not limited to the presentation materials, professional fees,
staff salaries, per diem allowance, travel and related expenses will be for
the account of the designer.

10. TIMELINE
 Disseminate email invite: Jan. 14, 2013
 Concept Presentation/Short Listing: Feb. 04, 2013
Note: Further details of the concept presentation will be disseminated at least a week before
the date of presentation.

15. BRAINSTORMING.
Brainstorming is one of the most valuable processes in which
an “idea person” can engage. It is the simple process of
writing down any and all ideas that come to mind when
thinking on an specific topic or challenge. To brainstorm is to
develop a list of 10 words or more that come to mind and
serve as descriptors that communicate ones visual and
emotional ideas relative to the project.
There is one and only one fundamental rule to brainstorm:
there are no wrong answers in a brainstorm.
The brainstorm list was filtered to four “big ideas” that are
closer to the mental images created.
Out of the four “big ideas”, two were chosen to create a
brainstorm bubble diagram in order to transform them into an
architectural or graphical expression.
