Wrong priority
“Sa tamang panahon.” This is a famous line of Lola Nidora in
the all-time phenomenal “kalyeserye” aired from Mondays to Saturdays
of a noontime show in a certain TV station. It is like a communicable
disease that has binged rapidly across the globe, infecting televisions
and the social media as well. The Aldub has become so popular that it
becomes the new tempting machinery for the students.
Unsurprisingly, most of us, students, and teachers as well, are
influenced by the Aldub and other fictional shows. The group messages
we send are full of #Aldubyou, #Maaldenkita, or #Pabebewave etc. We
admire Alden Richards, Maine Mendoza and Lola Nidora both in and
out of the kalyeserye. We love to repeatedly blabber about the newest
angle of the story. We love to collect stuffs inscribed with Aldub or
pastillas. We are so enthused with the pick-up lines from the shows.
We always do Pabebe wave whenever a camera is pointed to us.
Tell us who does not know how to do the “pabebe wave?”
Many argue, as colored by the media machinery of the TV
Network, that the show portrays how Filipinos gain and give respect.
More specifically, some would even say this would help mitigate the
high influx of premarital sex and adolescent pregnancy cases. Very
vulgar approach, but for us, this is just a speck of the big cake.
Let us look into the results of our exceptional admiration of
the kalyeserye. Undeniably, teachers observe that some students tend to
forget reading books, doing assignments and accomplishing projects
because students picture themselves in the unimaginable fairytale day
and night. We argue that this popularity can encourage a premature
love or infatuation instead, and which may eventually result into
unwanted conception – incapacitating students to study well.
The students’ brains are like funnels of data, but because the
funnel holders are getting very loko with AlDub, terabytes of AlDub
info are getting in more than academics.
It would not be so evil for us to emulate our favorite AlDub
characters or whoever we want to copy, but we believe that we should
not put ourselves too connected to it that we may forget who we really
are and what is realistic in this world.
Some of us would be so affected that they would go astray
looking for that perfect love this early, putting into oblivion their main
role – to study well.
Things can wait and are not meant to be dashed. Like our
school projects when rushed, it would only result to fiasco. Let us wake
up from the stunning spell of the show and go back to studying harder.
Remember this is college. This is not a joke. This is our future.
How about you? Do you want to wake yourself up? Are you
in the “Tamang Panahon”?
