2. How Revalidation process work?
GMC has designed revalidation for doctors to
evaluate and asses their fitness to practice.
It is a responsibility of the healthcare employer
to provide appraisal services to their employee
doctors.
The annual appraisal is required to be
conducted for the revalidation of doctors.
The organisation will be referred to as
‘Designed Body’.
3. What doctors need to follow?
Doctors need to undergo regular appraisals based on
the core guidance of their medical practice.
Good medical Practice.
They need to follow the appraisal frame work
designed by GMC.
Appraisers and Responsible officers also need to
follow the guidelines of GMC for doctor’s appraisal.
Assessment of training doctors will be done through
‘Annual Review of Competence Progression’.
4. What doctors need to maintain for
process of revalidation of doctors?
Required to maintain a comprehensive portfolio of
supporting information.
This will be drawn from the medical practice .
It will demonstrate how they are meeting the
principles and the values of ‘Good Medical
Practice’.
Doctors need to collect six different types of
information which they can collect personally as well
as from their employee organisation that is providing
support for revalidation of doctors.
5. Who will make the recommendations for
revalidation of doctors?
A ‘Responsible Officer’ is appointed who makes
recommendations for revalidation of doctors to
GMC.
These are made generally after every five years.
It ensures that the doctor is up-to-date in his
medical practice and fit for practicing.
The recommendations are made on the basis of
annual appraisals of doctors conducted over the
period of previous 5 years.
