THREE MODULAR HOUSES WERE DESIGNED
USING DIFFERENT SHAPES AND FORMS. THE FIRST
WAS A TRADITIONAL MODULAR HOME, THE SECOND
AN INFILL AND THE THIRD WAS A HYBRID OF THE
FIRST TWO DESIGNS.
4. COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT STUDY FOR THE CITY OF STOCKTON ALABAMA. THE STUDY WAS TO GATHER INFOR-
MATION ABOUT THE AREAS WHERE CURRENT DEVELOPMENT EXISTED AND WHERE NEW DEVELOPMENT COULD BE
PLACED. THE CITY ASKED THAT WE CREATE A PROPOSAL FOR A NEW CITY CENTER, BASEBALL PARK, AND GREEN
AREAS. THIS MAP HELPED TO DISTINGUISH HOUSING DEVELOPMENT ZONES FROM CIVIC AND COMMERCIAL ZONES.

4TH YEAR ARCHITECTURE
STUDENTS. THE HOUSE WAS BUILT
IN A MODULAR HOME FACILITY
AND SHIPPED TO SITE WHERE WE
ADDED THE CENTER ROOF ELE-
MENT AND PORCHES. ALL EXTERI-
OR AND INTERIOR FINISHES WERE
DONE BY THE STUDENTS.
8. THE MUSIC MAN HOUSE
THE MUSIC MAN HOUSE WAS A STUDIO PROJECT IN WHICH WE DESIGNED AND BUILT A HOUSE
IN RURAL GREENSBORO, AL. THIS PROJECT WAS PART OF AUBURN UNIVERSITY’S RURAL STUDIO
STARTED BY SAMUEL MOCKBEE. THE FIRST PART OF THE SEMESTER WAS SPENT DESIGNING AND
RESEARCHING AND THE SECOND HALF WAS FOR CONSTRUCTION. THE MATERIALS INCLUDED
CORRUGATED METAL, CEDAR, PELLA WINDOWS, STAINED GLASS, STANDING SEAM METAL ROOFING
AND LUMBER.
12. THE MUSEUM ADDITION PROJECT:
THE PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS WERE TO CREATE A ADDITIONAL ROOM TO AN EXISTING MUSEUM.
THE ROOM WAS TO HOUSE A RARE PAINTING. I STUDIED DIFFERENT FORMS AND CONCLUDED WITH
A DESIGN THAT RESEMBLED ELEMENTS EXTRUDED FROM ONE ANOTHER. GETTING LIGHT INTO THE
ROOM WAS A TASK BECAUSE THERE COULD BE NO DIRECT LIGHT ON THE PAINTING SO I CREATED
SLIVERS OF LIGHT AND CLERESTORIES TO BRING NATURAL LIGHT INTO THE ROOM.
13. THE WALL PROJECT:
THE DESIGN FOR THIS WALL CAME ABOUT THROUGH A STUDY OF THE SAND DUNES AND THEIR UNDU-
LATING FROMS. STUDYING THE DUNES I BEGAN TO NOTICE SOLIDS AND VOIDS AND WHAT WOULD BE-
COME MY INSPIRATION FOR DESIGNING THE WALL. THE IDEA WAS TO TAKE A NATURAL FORM AND CRE-
ATE AN ARCHITECTURAL FORM. THE SOLID AREA BECAME THE SOLID FORMS OF THE WALL AND THE
VOIDS BECAME OPENINGS IN THE WALL.
14. SUSTAINABLE DESIGN - SCHOOL
THE PROJECT WAS TO DESIGN A SUSTAINABLE BUILDING IN A CHALLENGING CLIMATE. THE PROGRAM WAS
A PROPOSED COLLEGE THAT CONSISTED OF CLASSROOMS, OFFICES, CAFE AND COURTYARD. THE SKIN OF
THE BUILDING WAS DEVELOPED THROUGH STUDYING LEAVES AND HOW EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE LIGHT-
WEIGHT THEY PROVIDE COVER. THE BREEZEWAY/MAIN AXIS CREATED BY SEPARATING THE TWO BUILDINGS
ADDING A SCULPTURAL CANOPY. THE DESIGN OF THE COURTYARD WAS FORMED THROUGH A STUDY OF
WIND PATTERNS IN THE AREA. THE COURTYARD WOULD ABSORB THE WIND AND PUSH IT THROUGH THE
REST OF THE BUILDING.

ON THE PENTHOUSE/FOURTH FLOOR. THE SWIMMING POOL WAS
SUPPORTED TWO FOOT THICK CONCRETE WALLS STARTING FROM
THE FOUNDATION AND ENDING AT THE THIRD FLOOR TO HOUSE
THE POOL. THE SKIN OF THE BUILDING WAS DERIVED FROM A
STUDY OF 2D PATTERNS. THE SKIN WAS NOT ONLY ARCHITECTUR-
ALLY AESTHETIC BUT IT ALSO LET IN THE REQUIRED AMOUNT OF
LIGHT.
18. TWO-STORY HABITAT HOUSE:
THE PROJECT INCORPORATED FACTORY MODULAR CONSTRUCTION WITH COVENTIONAL CONSTRUC-
TION. THE UPPER AND LOWER MODULAR STRUCTURES WERE FACTORY BUILT WHILE THE REAR PORCH
AND ARCHITECTURAL ELEMENT WERE BUILT ON-SITE. THE HOUSE WAS TO BE LOCATED ON A SMALL
SITE AND HAD TO MEET HABITAT FOR HUMANITY REQUIREMENTS FOR SQUARE FOOTAGE. THE DESIGN
DILEMMA WAS FIGURING OUT HOW TO ATTACH THE TWO PIECES ONCE ON SITE. THE LOWER STRUC-
TURE HAD TO BE BUILT FIRST AND HAD TO BE ABLE TO CARRY THE LOAD OF THE TOP STRUCTURE.

THIS PROJECT WAS MODELED AND RENDERED IN REVIT. THE REVIT IMAGE WAS PLACED ON
EXISTING PHOTO OF MUSEUM USING PHOTOSHOP.
23. ST. STEPHENS EPISCOPAL CHURCH ADDITION
THIS PROJECT WAS AN ADDITION TO AN EXISTING BUILDING AND HAD TO KEEP THE SAME
LOOK AND FEEL OF THE ORIGINAL. I CREATED THE ENTIRE EXISTING MODEL FROM OLD DRAW-
INGS. EVERY DETAIL OF THE BUILDING WAS MODELED INCLUDED THE ENTRANCE CANOPIES,
WINDOWS, STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS AND TOWER.

26. BIRMINGHAM-SHUTTLESWORTH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
THE BSIA WAS THE FIRST REVIT PROJECT FOR THE OFFICE. I WAS THE FIRST TO USE REVIT
AND GUIDED THE TEAM THROUGH THE INITIAL PROCESS OF CREATING THE MODEL. THE
MODEL CONTAINS SEVERAL COMPLEX FAMILIES THAT I CREATED SUCH AS SHADING DEVICES,
ROOF MONITORS, AND INTERIOR CASEWORK. I ALSO CREATED SEVERAL RENDERINGS WITH
REVIT AND 3DS MAX.

29. MOUNTAIN BROOK GOLF CLUBHOUSE
THE PROJECT WAS FOR A NEW CLUB HOUSE AND GOLF INSTRUCTION BUILDING. THE PROGRAM CON-
SISTED OF TWO INSTUCTION BAYS, GOLF CLUB REPAIR AND STORAGE AND AN COVERED PATIO WITH
FIREPLACE. THE ISOKERN FIREPLACE WAS CUSTOM DESIGNED FOR THIS PROJECT. VERY LITTLE LIGHT
WAS NEEDED FOR THE INTERIOR SO ONLY A FEW SMALL OPENINGS WERE PLACED FOR NATURAL LIGHT.
THE DESIGN INTENT WAS TO CREATE A CLUBHOUSE THAT HAD THE FEEL OF A RESIDENCE AND STILL
PROVIDE ENOUGH SPACE FOR ALL THE ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATED WITH A GOLF CLUBHOUSE.
33. SOUTHERN RESEARCH INSTITUTE
SRI ENGINEERING RESEARCH FACILITY IS A BUILDING THAT HOUSES ENGINEERING AND SCIENCE LABS FOR
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT PURPOSES. THE DESIGN INTENT WAS TO CREATE A BUILDING WHERE THE EX-
TERIOR APPEARED TRANSLUCENT THROUGH OPENINGS AND WINDOWS. THE MAIN ENTRY WAS A GLAZED WALL
SURROUNDED BY A CONCRETE STRUCTURE THAT ALLOWED LIGHT TO PASS THROUGH. THE BUILDING WAS
PRIMARILY METAL PANEL WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE ENTRANCE.

37. SOUTHERN RESEARCH INSTITUTE CANOPY
THIS PROJECT CONSISTED OF ADDING A CANOPY AND GATE TO AN EXISTING BUILDING. THE CANOPY STRUCTURE
WAS METAL STUDS SUPPORTED BY A BRACE EXTENDING OUT FROM THE STRUCTURAL COLUMN. UNDERNEATH
THE STUDS WAS A TRANSPARENT METAL GRATE THAT ALLOWED LIGHT TO FILTER ONTO THE WALKWAY BELOW.
THE CYLINDRICAL BASES WERE MADE OF CONCRETE AND HOUSED THE STEEL COLUMNS FOR SUPPORT. THIS
PROJECT WAS DESIGN IN SKETCHUP.

A MODEL OF EXISTING REGIONS AT HARBERT PLAZA WAS MODELED AND
TWO AREAS WERE CHOSEN TO BE MODELED. I WORKED CLOSELY WITH
THE INTERIOR DESIGNERS TO CHOOSE A MATERIAL AND COLOR PALETTE
AND THEN I RENDERED THE INTERIOR USING ADVANCED RENDER SET-
TINGS AND DAYLIGHTING. THE LIGHT FIXTURES WERE CREATED IN RE-
VIT FROM THE MANUFACTURERS SPECIFICATIONS.

THIS RENDERING WAS FOR A CLIENT WHO WANTED A VISUAL OF WHAT THE MASTER
BATHROOM WOULD LOOK LIKE WITH FIXTURES, MATERIALS AND LIGHTING.
