5. INTRODUCTION TO SOLAR ENERGY
Solar power in
India is a fast growing
industry.
India quadrupled its
solar-generation
capacity from 2.65 GW
on 26 May 2014 to
12.289 GW on 31
March 2017.

The country added 3.01 GW of solar capacity in 2015-
2016 and 5.525 GW in 2016-2017, the highest of any year,
with the average current price of solar electricity dropping
to 18% below the average price of its coal-fired
9. JAWAHARLAL NEHRU NATIONAL SOLAR MISSION
Also known as the National Solar Mission,
is an initiative of the Government of India and
State Governments to promote solar power.
The program was inaugurated by
former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on
11 January 2010 with a target of 20GW by
2022 which was later increased to 100 GW
by the Narendra Modi government in the
2015 Union budget of India.
10. RURAL ELECTRIFICATION RATE
In 2015, 55 % of
all rural
households had
access to
electricity, and
85% of rural
households
depended on solid
fuel for cooking.
11. COUNTINUOUS…..
By the end of 2015 ,one Million solar
lanterns were sold in the country, 1,18,700
solar home lighting systems were installed
and 46,655 solar street lighting installations
were provided under a national program; just
over 1.4 million solar cookers were
distributed in India.

park in India which is
spread over a total area
of 10,000 acres
(40 km2) in
Bhadla, Phalodi

16. COUNTINUOUS………
The park is proposed to have a capacity of
2,255 MW.
The park has witnessed one of the lowest
bids for tarrif of Rs 2.44 per kWh, which is
lowest for solar in India so far.
