6. Local Wisdom & Resources turned into tools to address the issues.. Goonj
decided to digs well, restore water bodies, create water channels, make
check dams, clean ponds under its flagship initiative ‘Cloth for work’
26. Rahat-Kits received as a part of ‘Cloth for Work’ activity
comprises of general clothing, woolens, Shoes, sujni/blanket, dari,
toys, tarpaulins, umbrella/cap, utensils etc.
28. Menstruation : Due to lack of water, women’s struggle
to deal with menses multiplies..
29. Team Goonj went ahead in breaking the deep rooted culture of
taboos, shame & silence. Close interactions with women and
adolescent girls to create awareness around the topic..
30. Using ‘MY Pads’- hand made cotton cloth pads as a tool to open up
the taboo issue, sharing better health practices and providing a viable
solution to their monthly needs.
31. Education
Another focus area is to reach the basic learning material in resource
deprived schools and anganwadi’s
33. Quality interaction with children on many issues. Brings out aspiration
to bring change in their own environment. Young minds participate
and initiate various activities.
34. Re-thinking about their existing spaces.. Making kitchen gardens,
decorating classrooms, sanitation around school, quiz, projects on
social issues, understanding their surroundings etc.

36. Our Long-term Plans..
Under the ‘Rahat : Drought’ initiative Goonj will work in 4 major areas
through ‘Cloth for work’ activities.
•Cleaning, repairing of available water source (hand pump,
ponds, wells , soak pits, check dams)
•Making new wells, ponds, canals, Water sheds, check dams for
water conservation & Rain water harvesting pits
•Build community bathrooms
•Road, Canal cleaning
•Personal Hygiene
•Cleaning & repairing community spaces: roads, hospitals,
religious space, play grounds..

38. In the second phase of our implementation under the
‘School to School’ initiative we will target schools,
anganwadies , informal centers to reach out essential
learning material supply & will also revive infrastructure
as per need.
We will work with women on creating awareness
around the menstruation under our ‘Not Just a piece of
cloth’ initiative .

39. These areas have been under drought for many years, despite rains in
some areas this year, economy will take a long to come back on
track..
For us this is a disaster which needs more work and attention..
