• Weather refers to
atmospheric
conditions at a
specific moment
• Climate refers to
atmospheric
conditions in an area
over a long period of
time

3. Atmospheric conditions
• Temperature is the
amount of heat in the
atmosphere
• Precipitation is water
than falls from the
sky as rain, snow or
hail
• Wind is the
movement of air in
the atmosphere
• Atmospheric pressure
is caused by the
weigth of the air in the
atmosphere

4. Factors that influence climate
• Latitude: Areas that are near the equator
are usually warmer
• Distance from bodies of water: Water
takes a longer time to warm up than land
• Altitude: Places at high altitudes are
usually colder than places at lower
altitudes

5. 2.The Earth’s climate zones
Hot climates:
• Equatorial climates: have high temperatures
and lots of precipitation all year long.
• Tropical: Higth temperatures all year long
lots of precipitation in the summer, but dry
winter.
• Desert: little precipitation all year long.
They can also have extreme temperatures.

6. Temperate climates

Oceanic: mild temperatures all year long, lots
of precipitation especially in the winter
•
Mediterranean climates have mild winters and
hot summers. It rains in the spring but
summers are usually dry.
•
Continental: cold winters and hot summers.
They don`t receive much precipitation.

7. Cold climates.
• Moutain climates are cold, there is much
precipitation at high altitudes.
• Polar areas have low temperatures. They
receive very little precipitation.

8. Climate change
• Climate change is caused by an increase in the
Earth’s temperature.
• Higher sea levels: the ice polar is melting.
• Higher temperatures are going to cause more
violent storms.
• Drougth: some regions are going to receive
less precipitation.
• Extincion: if the temperature keeps increasing
many plants and animals species are going to
disappear.
