2. Definition of Computer
The word computer is derived from Greek word ‘compute’
which means to calculate. It gives an entire output after
processing data. It is useful for transferring data.
A computer is a programmable machine. The two principal
characteristics of a computer are. It responds to a specific set of
instructions in a well defined manner. It can execute prerecorded
list of instructions (a program)

3. Its Components
A computer performs five major operations or functions
.It accepts data or instructions as input,
• It stores data and instruction
• It processes data as per the instructions,
• It controls all operations inside a computer, and
It gives result in the form of output
4. Output Device
An output device lets a computer to
communicate with you. The device which are
used to display the data to the user either in the
form of hard copy or soft copy are called output
devices. A monitor,printer and speaker are all
output devices.
6. Monitors
Monitors are the most popular output devices used for
producing soft copy output.
Display the output on a television like screen.
Monitor is associated with a keyboard is called a Video
Display Terminal(VDT)
