As COVID-19 continues to create massive and unprecedented health, social and economic problems across the globe,
the pandemic highlights the importance of health to the future of humanity and the complexity of healthcare
ecosystems. The impact of poor health not only affects the individual citizen but also many diverse stakeholders. Poor
health is not only a cost burden, it can totally disrupt established social and economic networks built up over many
years.
In the UK, we have taken for granted the daily routines of everyday life and the fact that medical care will be available
and affordable whenever it is needed. We have had a robust infrastructure designed to provide care when it is needed
and an ecosystem of stakeholders designed to sustain these services. This ecosystem not only includes medical and
clinical staff but also employers, insurers, telecommunication services, governmental organisations, charities, family,
friends and so on.
ISDM is committed to sharing ideas and expertise that can make a difference to the future effectiveness and
sustainability of digital medicine and healthcare. This newsletter includes events, activities and resources which we
hope you will find useful in helping to tackle some of the complex challenges we now face.
Digitally enabled ecosystems are becoming increasingly commonplace in commercial sectors and involve the use of
technologies to create win-win collaborative partnerships between stakeholders from different sectors but they are
relatively new to the healthcare sector.

they can empower and influence personal health management.

Andrew Cowen is the CEO and Founder of FutureCare UK. He was inspired to set up his company through his personal
experiences of healthcare for elderly family members. Click here to view the video.
Henry Etukumoh is the CEO and Co-Founder of UK based telehealth provider Medics2you. Henry was also inspired by
the challenges of getting access to quality healthcare for a family member. He set up Medics2you to address these
challenges in his native Nigeria where he secured an over-subscription of crowd-funding from his diaspora. He is now
ready to launch version 2 on the Medics2you application and for a second round of venture capital. Henry will be one of
the expert panellists in the Healthcare Ecosystems webinar on August 11th

The continent of Africa is an exciting opportunity and challenge for digital medicine and healthcare. The free webinar on
August 25th
will look at the role of digital healthcare technologies in Africa and share some of the work being done by
pioneers like Henry Etukumoh, Mary Akangbe and others.
