credits?
Titles are mostly shown at the beginning of
the trailer. They show information such as
name of the movie or name of distribution or
production company.
Other titles shown are for more information
to the audience throughout the course of the
trailer.
Also titles are used to give the audience an
idea about the storyline
Credits are shown at the end of the trailer
and show important information such as
cast name (people who aided making the
film, like the producers, actors/actresses
etc.), social media etc.
It often involves ratings and critics which
aides selling the movie
3. What do they say? What they are about?
Instead of voiceovers or the actual characters speaking, some trailers use
quotes/titles to give more information about the film
Informs the audience when the film will be released. But ‘coming soon’
allows the audience to keep an eye out for the actual release date
Show not their own opinion of their film, but shows reviews from other
directors, film critics and audience etc. Allowing the audience to not only
make their own minds up about the film, but to take on board what others

Actors/Actress, to show audience who is in the movie. Also influential
actors/actress can attract people to watch the movie, because they are popular
and well known.
The name of the distribution/production company are shown as they are the
ones who funded the film and due to a certain quality or style from them.
Sometimes audience are more likely to see the movie because of their
producers.

The purpose of the title is to inform audience what is happening in the movie, give a brief story or information about
actress so audience would be aware what is happening
The purpose of credit is to give the people involved in the film thanks and acknowledgment for their work. show to
audience who was helping in the process of making movie, who sponsored the film and also audience can find who
played the certain part.

6. When?
They usually appear 3-10 seconds in from the beginning of the trailer. At the beginning usually are more than at the
end. However in some trailers titles appears at the beginning in the middle and at the end (for example American
Sniper trailer)
There is about 5 seconds between each title which appears, however this depends from factors such as editing or
genre of the movie or if they are at the beginning of the trailer or at the end. At the end titles or credits usually
appears 3 second between each other.
7. Where?
Usually founders of the film, production/distribution companies are placed at the beginning
The placement of the actress/ quotes etc. can be vary throughout the course of the film
Usually at the end name of the movie appears. It gives chance to audience to firstly pay attention to the story and at
the end to get to know the name of the movie
8. Narrative structure/ enigmas
Title fits to the non-linear narrative, which is not confusing the audience and create mysterious and
enigmas such as ‘why?’ ‘what?’ ‘who?’ ‘where?’ ‘when?’ ‘how?’
Also trailer show snippets of scenes, which are not in the order, so they help audience to familiar with the
story and what’s happening there.
9. How do they fit with the genre/subgenre?
They use different font style, thickness and colours for different
genres/subgenres.
For example title for thrillers tend to have simple font and be in bold.
Whereas titles in horrors tend to be in capital letter and creepy, because
horror’s audience expect something different and ordinary.
Also title in drama movie will be different to thriller's or horror’s because they
are usually colourful, have funny font etc.
Some the titles represent or hint the actions of what will occur in the actual
film.
10. How?
The titles in thriller trailer are generally in bold and mysterious with black & white/grey colours and tend to fade in/out.

The titles in a horror trailer have colours such as red and black which are conventions of the horror genre. • This helps
the audience identify the genre of the film.
They also are usually bold, capital letters. They sometimes use special effects to create tension or fear, for example
flashing or animations in the background or sudden popping to the screen.
