The Art of Self-Coaching is a course that I designed and launched at the Stanford Graduate School of Business (GSB) in Spring 2015, and in Spring 2020 I'm teaching it again for the 13th time (although for the very first time online.) In response to COVID-19, the GSB has moved all Spring Quarter classes online, and in an effort to make a small contribution of my own to help people cope with the pandemic, I'm offering this publicly available online version of the course: https://www.edbatista.com/the-art-of-self-coaching-public-course.html

23. Endings
Endings tend to evoke sadness & loss
Because endings are symbolic deaths
So every ending is a learning opportunity
24. The end of a melody is not its goal.
But nonetheless, had the melody
not reached its end it would not
have reached its goal either.
~Human, All Too Human
26. Transitions
Change is situational. Transition is psychological.
Transitions start with letting go of what no longer
fits the life stage you are in.
~William Bridges
27. Transitions
To become something else, you have to stop
being what you are now… Even though it
sounds backwards, endings always come first.
~William Bridges
28. Transitions
The process of transformation is essentially a
death and rebirth process rather than one of
mechanical modification.

47. Habits
Could the young but realize how soon they will
become mere walking bundles of habits, they
would give more heed to their conduct while in
the plastic state.

Everyday life poses demands & I am not saying
that we should ignore those we do not like.
I am saying don’t sweat the small stuff & most
of it is small stuff.
~Christopher Peterson
