  2. Teachers can share power with students through co-operative learning environments where students may select the lesson at the beginning with student lead activities.   They can determine when they need help and when they can learn from each other.  This example of manaakitanga in the classroom demonstrates the trust and where the students feel comfortable and where they are able to give their answers.  These power sharing strategies gives students a sense of belonging.  Co-operative learning environments help to include all students in learning.  This also encourages students’ ownership of their own learning.
  3. Co-construction implies teamwork between teacher and student.  To enable students to develop skills and confidence to become effective independent learners, taking ownership of their learning, including context sequencing and delivery.  Topic or unit of work discussed with the class and the teacher uses strategies to determine prior knowledge.  On this basis, the class is asked for ideas for key questions and areas of further enquiry.  Students gain ownership of different sections of enquiry and asked to report back in some form of delivery to the class.  Lessons delivered by students in this manner in groups of 2-4. 
  4. Teachers can develop working together strategies on the back of relationships with students and students with each other. Building those relationships is essential to ensure shared learning. Building positive teacher/student interactions where effective feedback and feedforward are integral parts to learning procees for everyone in the classroom. The sense of being able to help each other and having a safe environment in which to do that. Clustering of seats in the classroom suits this strategy. Working together also promotes students’ ownership of their own learning.
