PARIS AGREEMENT:
Keeping the increase in global average temperature to well
below 2°Degree above pre-industrial levels; aim to limit
the increase to 1.5°Degree
Climate neutrality in the second half of this century
As conclusion:
• Industrial countries should decarbonize until 2050
• Developing countries until 2070
Governments agreed to come together every 5 years to set
more ambitious targets and report to each other how well
they are doing to implement their targets.
Industrial countries mobilize USD 100 billion per year by
2020 and extend this until 2025

• Cities have 2 % of the earth’s surface and half
of the world’s population.
• Over 90% of all urban areas are coastal and 70
% of cities are already dealing with the effects of
climate.
• Cities consume 78% of the world’s energy and
produce 70 % of global CO2-emissions

Cities as hubs for innovation and places of
efficiency!
We need:
• better city planning (reduction of urban sprawl)
• green buildings
• innovative concepts for the mobility and
heating sector
• decentralized renewable generation

Need for maximum operating periods for existing coal power
plants that would be compatible with the 2° degree limit
Increase the amount of renewable energy
Electro-mobility: The German Bundesrat demands in a resolution
that new cars in the EU should be emission-free by 2030.
Building and heating sector: modernise and improve energy
performance (e.g. insulation, renewable heat pumps)
Reducing agriculture´s greenhouse gas emissions.
