Introduction
The brain is clearly the central
computer, which controls all the functions
of the body. It is the most active and
complex area of the body, which means
that when something goes wrong with the
body, the brain is often the first thing to be
affected and the last thing to improve.
Therefore, the initial approach to treating
any problems of the body is exactly as
taking good care of the brain itself.
CEREBRAL ANEURYSM is not an unusual brain problem. It is the
enlargement of the wall of a cerebral artery or vein. Aneurysms affect
arteries throughout the body, including blood vessels in the brain.
Although more common in adults than children, cerebral
aneurysms occur in all age groups. Cerebral aneurysms are more
common—and the risk of aneurysm generally increases—with age; the
motivation why the group conducted the Seminar entitled:
          TICK-TOCK: Methods and Mechanisms of
                          Cerebral Aneurysm
Introduction
 The 3-hour seminar in collaboration
with Philippine Nurses Association-Iloilo
Chapter, held last May 24, 2012 at the
Victory Christian Fellowship, Paseo de
             Iloilo, was with
Dr. Steven G. Bacalian, MD, FAFNI,
and Mr. Norwil G. Baguio, RN, MAN,
as the guest speakers. Dr. Steven G. Bacalian, MD, FAFNI

   The event featured both the
     medical and the nursing
   perspective of the Cerebral
 Aneurysm. Nursing management
and interventions were highlighted
especially in the second part of
           the seminar.
Mr. Norwil G. Baguio, RN, MAN
Introduction

           Newly nursing graduates
      from the University of San
      Agustin, Graduate school
      students from Central Philippine
      University and registered nurses
      from West Visayas State University
      Medical Center, Great Saviour
      International Hospital and Iloilo

Introduction
                                      The Seminar organized by the
                                      Medical-Surgical II students got
                                       satisfactory reviews from the
                                                participants.

Through the efforts of the class,
   knowledge and awareness of
      cerebral aneurysm was
heightened. Information about the
health problem was disseminated
     which made a productive
     afternoon for everybody.
GENERAL OBJECTIVE
At the end of this seminar, the participants will
be able to develop awareness on the trends and
          updates about Cerebral Aneurysm.

                  SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
Specifically, the participants will be able to:
 1. understand the causes, the signs and symptoms and
    pathophysiology of Cerebral Aneurysm;
 2. determine the different medical-surgical managements for
    Cerebral Aneurysm;
 3. be familiar with the latest trends and updates in the diagnosis
    treatment of patients with Cerebral Aneurysm;
 4. identify nursing responsibilities in caring for clients with
    Cerebral Aneurysm; and
 5. determine appropriate health teachings for clients with
    Cerebral Aneurysm.

Opening Prayer
―What am I to do? I will pray with
my spirit, but I will pray with my
mind also; I will sing praise with
my spirit, but I will sing with my

OPENING REMARKS
To our beloved adviser, Professor Mae Joy
Espinosa, to our distinguished guests, my fellow
coordinators/organizers of this seminar, and to our
     dear participants, a pleasant afternoon.

It is my honor and great privilege to lead
this activity about cerebral aneurysm. This is relevant
to our present health setting since many of our
clients are diagnosed with this disease. I believe that
through this seminar, the health care providers
especially nurses can give inputs or health teachings
to the clients both in hospital and community. After
this, may we become change agents in our society
to help others by educating them with what we
know.May this activity enlighten our minds and be
the servants of Christ, to give care and aid the sick,
and help them in alleviating their sufferings. For this is
our passion – and that is to SERVE.

So without further ado, let’s enjoy the
learnings that we can get in this seminar. Seat back
and open our ears to gather information as much as
we can. Have a good day! Thank you.

            concept itself.

      All participants are free to
       raise their questions and
         doubts regarding the
topic and write it in a

Closing Remarks
Ladies and gentlemen, first of all, let me
thank you for giving me this role of speaking on
behalf of the participants in this closing
ceremony of our Seminar on Cerebral Aneurysm.
It is a great honor for me to have this opportunity.

During the past few hours, the seminar
discussed the Methods and Mechanisms of
Cerebral Aneurysm and we have had the
opportunity to delve into this thought provoking
                       topic.
It is important for us to be able to utilize the
lessons learned today as we continue to grow and
work as nurses. I strongly believe that experiences
like this are fruitful and will, on its part, provide a
source of confidence for those aiming at a more

3 – Satisfactory
2 – Unsatisfactory
1 – Needs Improvement
Evaluation
The topic, speaker, physical set-up and organization
of the program were the components of the seminar to be
evaluated. The topic was rated based on relevance of the
topic to the nursing profession, whether it was an interesting
topic, and if the audience learned a lot from the lecture.
The speakers were evaluated based on knowledge and
mastery of the content, skillful method and manner of
presentation, level of presentation appropriate to the
audience, clarity and speaking ability, organization and
presentation and adequacy of discussion period. The
physical set-up was rated based on conductivity for
learning, cleanliness and orderliness and clarity of audio-
visual equipment. The organization of the program was
evaluated based on selection of the resource speaker, flow
of registration, accommodation, presentation of the
program, quality of lecture materials and seminar kits and if
the objectives were met.
Evaluation

The total scores corresponding to each component
of the evaluation were totaled and averaged. The following
are the average scores for each element of the seminar.
The highest average was given to the relevance of the
topic to the nursing with the score of 94%. The lowest
average with 84% was given to skillful method and manner
of presentation to the speaker 2.

  • 2. Introduction The brain is clearly the central computer, which controls all the functions of the body. It is the most active and complex area of the body, which means that when something goes wrong with the body, the brain is often the first thing to be affected and the last thing to improve. Therefore, the initial approach to treating any problems of the body is exactly as taking good care of the brain itself. CEREBRAL ANEURYSM is not an unusual brain problem. It is the enlargement of the wall of a cerebral artery or vein. Aneurysms affect arteries throughout the body, including blood vessels in the brain. Although more common in adults than children, cerebral aneurysms occur in all age groups. Cerebral aneurysms are more common—and the risk of aneurysm generally increases—with age; the motivation why the group conducted the Seminar entitled: TICK-TOCK: Methods and Mechanisms of Cerebral Aneurysm

  • 15. OPENING REMARKS To our beloved adviser, Professor Mae Joy Espinosa, to our distinguished guests, my fellow coordinators/organizers of this seminar, and to our dear participants, a pleasant afternoon. It is my honor and great privilege to lead this activity about cerebral aneurysm. This is relevant to our present health setting since many of our clients are diagnosed with this disease. I believe that through this seminar, the health care providers especially nurses can give inputs or health teachings to the clients both in hospital and community. After this, may we become change agents in our society to help others by educating them with what we know.May this activity enlighten our minds and be the servants of Christ, to give care and aid the sick, and help them in alleviating their sufferings. For this is our passion – and that is to SERVE. So without further ado, let’s enjoy the learnings that we can get in this seminar. Seat back and open our ears to gather information as much as we can. Have a good day! Thank you.
