2. Historical Places to Visit in Arizona
Aside from botanical
gardens, theme
parks, and city
museums, historical
sites are among the
favorite destinations
of tourists in
Arizona. This is
because these
structures are a great way to bring back visitors to the past and educate them
with what has transpired in the society from the years that have passed by.
Arizona historic preservation, or the process of preserving historical sites and
structures, plays a big role in maintaining the look and feel of these landmarks for
the benefit of the state’s tourism and the tourists visiting these sites. Here are
some interesting places to visit in Arizona.
1. El Tovar – El Tovar is perhaps the most distinguished accommodation
offered within the Grand Canyon National Park. Located 20 feet from the
South Rim, this rustic lodge with a large porch offers thrilling views of the
canyon and wonderful people-watching opportunities.
2. Fort Bowie National Historic Site – Fort Bowie is an interesting historic site
that tourists visit because it tells the story of the conflict between the
Chiricahua Apaches and the U.S. Army.
3. Fort Lowell Park and Museum – Although the park is mostly dedicated to
illustrating the military history of Arizona, a self-guided, signed trail leads to
a prehistoric Hohokam village, which is called the Hardy site. The same trail
also leads to some of the fort’s historic buildings.
4. Sirrine House – Built in the early 1900’s, the Sirrine House is Mesa’s only
fully restored, Victorian era home featuring period furnishings and artifacts
that provide visitors a glimpse of life in Mesa over a century ago.
3. 5. Wrigley Mansion – The Wrigley Mansion is a breathtaking landmark
located on top of a hill above the Biltmore Hotel in Phoenix. Built in 1932 by
William Wrigley Jr., the mansion sits atop a 100-foot knoll with
commanding views of the mountains and the city.
So, the next time you visit Arizona, be sure to drop by these interesting historical
