Description:
The Snakeden Branch at Lake Audubon Stream Restoration project has been substantially completed.
This project is in the Reston area of the Hunter Mill District of Fairfax County. The project stabilized
approximately 760 feet of eroding stream utilizing Natural Stream Design methods and protected
multiple exposed utilities. This project is notable in that it is the first Fairfax County project to make
use of pre-cast concrete blocks for imbricated structures. The estimated water quality benefits
associated with implementation of this project include 62 lbs/yr removal of phosphorus, 134 lbs/yr
nitrogen, and 21,300 lbs/yr removal of suspended sediment.
