Introduction
Dear Participant,
On behalf of naseba, I would like to thank all the attendees for contributing to the success of the 6th
Cyber
Defence Summit held on 1st
and 2nd
March 2015 at the InterContinental Hotel in Riyadh.
This post-event report gives a breakdown and reference guide to the 2 days of the summit which was held under
the theme ‘Proactive, Reactive and Collective Cyber Security’.
In all, 238 participants - 22 speakers, 161 delegates, 45 sponsors and 10 partners – were in attendance. Speakers
and delegates represented mainly critical national infrastructure organisations such as government agencies,
defence and security authorities, financial institutions, oil and gas companies, utilities, telecom and ISPs,
universities and large enterprises.
The agenda addressed key aspects and current pressing cyber security challenges such as high-level strategic
planning; critical infrastructure protection; advanced persistent threat prevention; securing the cloud, mobile,
big data and social platforms; addressing the human factor; risk management, business continuity and disaster
recovery; collaboration; and capacity building.
To address the cyber security challenges and needs, and to propose appropriate strategies, solutions, training
and technologies, 18 leading IT and Security companies showcased their capabilities in the corporate networking
area.

Overview of day one, 1st
March 2015:
Event producer Naveen Bharadwaj welcomed all the speakers and guests and presented key statistics from a
survey naseba conducted with over 250 Saudi Arabian CIOs and CISOs.
Eng. Ahmad Alkhiary, the chairperson, connected with the audience through his welcome address revolving
around strategic planning and creating awareness amongst stakeholders.
Cyber Security in a Collaborative World: The Art of Securing Saudi Arabian Brands
In his keynote address, BT Global Services’ Tareque Choudhury presented the art of securing Saudi Arabian
brands by helping define critical assets and the ever changing role of the Chief Security Officers. He gave tangible
examples of how private and public brands can protect and preserve themselves and also shared insights
learnings from the BT cyber security team deployed to defend London Olympics 2012 and BT Sports from
malicious attacks.
Legacy and Next Generation Threats: Heartbleed, Shellshock, What Next?
In a world where the number of devices with internet protocol addresses are growing, building security has never
been more difficult and of paramount importance. Chaired by Dr. Mansour A. Aldajani, a discussion featuring
Eric Eiffert, Mamdouh Khawaji and Ray Kafity explained how well-known programs, websites, networks and
servers may be highly secured but other vectors such as embedded systems, infected media, supply chain
compromise and social engineering can easily serve as malicious entry points.
The discussion concluded with practical methods to be prepared and defend systems, network, data and the
entire cyber ecosystem, proactively, reactively and collectively.
Cyber Security Briefing and Technology Showcase
Three 15 minute presentations were made to highlight the key cyber security challenges and provide practical
solutions to combat these issues through effective planning and application of cyber security strategy, innovative
hardware and software solutions.
1. Websense’s Neil Thacker urged for going beyond just deploying cyber security products and solutions, and to
understand kill-chain, threat models, raising human IQ and building risk based strategies.
2. Oxygen ME’s Khalid Laban and Fortinet’s Emad Abu Jazar stressed on Advanced Persistent (APT) and Next
Generation Threats and different ways of protection.
3. Gilles Loridon of Global Security Network Bridging the Gap between SCADA/ICS and Corporate IT Security
Cyber Security Capacity Building and Collaboration
Saudi Arabian cyber security spend is forecasted to exceed US$ 8 billion by the end of 2015 given the government
has increased its investment to strengthen its cyber security capabilities, and the private sector cyber security
spending has grown almost twice as much in the past.
This interactive discussion featuring Dr. Jalal Al-Muhtadi, Nasser El-Hout and Mamdouh Khawaji, and chaired
by Dr. Zaidan Alenezi addressed the quintessential components of cyber-security such as collaboration, capacity
building, information sharing and effective functioning of national and regional authorities.
The last session of the day concluded with a presentation on ‘Cyber Security Governance and Management using
COBIT 5 Framework’ by Nasser El-Hout.

Overview of day two, 2nd
March 2015:
Eng. Ahmed Alkhiary welcomed all the attendees and briefed them on the agenda of the day.
Securing Mobile Devices using Advanced PKI and Digital Certificates
This presentation was delivered by Eng. Mohammed E. Al-Ghamdi of National Center for Digital Certification
(NCDC), a division under the umbrella of Ministry of ICT. He explained the architecture, organization, techniques,
practices, and procedures that collectively support the implementation and operation of a Certificate-based
Public Key Cryptography system.
Securing the Third Platform Technologies – Social, Mobile, Cloud and Big Data
An increasing number of enterprises are embracing cloud and mobile technologies to have the competitive edge
and to better serve their customers. Volume of information being collected and processed has grown manifolds.
People and companies are now more connected than ever due to social platforms, on both professional and
personal fronts.
Chaired by Eng. Ahmad Alanazy, panel speakers Abdulkareem Alsheha, Eng. Suliman Alsamhan, Dr. Zaidan
Alenezi and Abdulrahim Said addressed the key issues faced by the third platform technologies and ways to
secure them.
Cyber Security Risk Management and Business Continuity
Past attacks have proven that majority of the attacked organisations either had poor or ineffective management
practices. Panelists Dr. Hosam Rowaihy, Gregory Nowak and Eng. Yasser Ruhaily, moderated by Fahad Al-
Hussein, explained with practical examples for organisations to integrate cyber risk management into day-to-
day operations and be prepared to respond to any unfortunate cyber incident.
The last session was a continuation of ‘Cyber Security Governance and Management using COBIT 5 Framework’
by Nasser El-Hout with the emphasis on implementation.
The summit concluded with Eng. Ahmad Alkhiary and Naveen Bharadwaj thanking all the speakers, guests,
sponsors and partners for their time and contribution towards the success of the summit.
