Editor's Notes

  1. This presentation covers the initial research for this project, working with five providers. We are currently working with another 15 providers and a final report will be presented via LSIS in Autumn 2011. If anyone is interested in the work, our methodology and any follow-up activity, please contact Nigel Ecclesfield at LSIS – see contact slide.
  2. Drawn from the work carried out by Becta 2000 – 2010 and used in a wide range of their Becta Review documents in this period. A bit picky maybe but confidence is not required in dealing with the familiar. It is either a new technology or a new application of an old technology.
  3. 218 practitioners responded to 19 questions; and provided 32,000 words of free text clarifying the attitudes they took to specific technologies or other questions. We’re extending this study now to 15 providers
  4. We will be showing you the survey tool live at the session and the hand out contains screen dumps to show you how it appears to users. Our paper will provide an appendix with the complete survey details, including the question matrix.
  5. These charts need a descriptive X axis. The numbers have no real relevance.
  6. Not all X axis titles are showing. Again the charts need reworking.
  7. Colleges must accommodate the fragmentation of the use of technologies amongst staff and students. Perhaps this is Web 2.00 arena or the blooming one? In fact each of these statements can be expanded into all kinds of exciting areas for further discussion. Teachers have more confidence to explore rather than wait passively to be taught and directed.
