Discover your space
       Think about
       • What are the important areas, objects, users in your space?
       • Is there something missing in the space?
       • What useful information are areas, objects and users providing and using?
       • Are they interacting with each other? If so how?

       Create
       • Description of the experience idea/s which will solve your challenge

       Example
       • Our Dorm room computer is helping students to sleep better by monitoring their
sleep patterns and waking them up at the best time and providing a personal
silent area which they can take with them

                                                    115

Task 2 - 1h

Re-imagine an object in your space

                                                             07/19/11

Tuesday, March 27, 12
Re-imagine an object in your space
       Think about
       • Choose an object to focus on
       • Re-imagine this object as a connected device
       • Does it really need to have a screen?
       • What does the object know about the user and context?
       • What information does it collect and provide?
       • How is it interacting with the user, other objects and space?

       Create
       • Description of your object and how its part of solving your challenge

       Example
       • The ‘dream guide’ is a lamp that sits next to the bed. It monitors eye movement
and breathing during sleep and adjusts the temperature of the bed sheets to
guide the user during sleep. It uses light and sounds to communicate to the user.

                                                    117

Tuesday, March 27, 12
Task 3 - 1h

                        Define key interactions

                                                 07/19/11

Tuesday, March 27, 12
Define key interactions
       Think about
       • How can the user interact with it using gestures, touch, voice?
       • How will the object communicate with users?
       • How are its shape, location and motion helping to communicate?
       • How will it learn and adapt over time?
       • What will the object do in its idle time?

       Create
       • Visual narrative of how a user would use your object.

       Example
       • Rocky is tired after his exam, he needs to get some really good sleep. As he sits
on the bed the ‘dream guide’ lamp notices he is tired and dims its light. Rocky
moves his wrist down a little to tell the lamp that: yes, he needs some rest. The
lamp makes a soft wave sound and plays Rocky’s favorite relax song. Rocky lies
             down in bed...

                                                     119
