Education vs. Indoctrination
Dr. Peter Hammond
“My people are destroyed from
lack of knowledge. ‘Because you
have rejected knowledge,
I will also reject you as My priests;
because you have ignored the
Law of your God,
I will also ignore your children.’”
Hosea 4:6
All education is inherently religious, because it presents
a certain perspective and selection of history, values and practices
and it prescribes a worldview.
Instead of education,
teaching people
how to think, critically
we now mostly have
indoctrination, telling
students what to think.
“See to it that no one takes you captive through
hollow and deceptive philosophy, which
depends on human tradition and the basic
principles of the world rather than on Christ.”
Colossians 2:8
Education today most certainly is a battleground.
School Campuses are a
Battleground
Freedom of speech and
freedom of conscience
is under fire
on school and
university campuses
which are meant to be
free market places
of ideas where
“iron sharpens iron”.
When Professor John Wycliffe of Oxford University produced
the first hand-written translation of the New Testament into
English (in the 14th Century), he wrote in the preface:
“The Bible is given for
the government of the people,
by the people,
and for the people.”
American President,
Abraham Lincoln,
quoted from Wycliffe
in his famous
Gettysburg Address
when he said:
“that government of the people, by the people, and for
the people shall not perish from the face of the earth.”
Lincoln also noted that: “The philosophy of the
classroom will become the philosophy of the
government in the next generation.”
A Battle
Over History
As Karl Marx declared: “The first battlefield
is the re-writing of history.”
“The generation now coming out of Western schools is
unable to distinguish good from bad. Even those words are
unacceptable. This results in impaired thinking ability.” -

German Reformer Dr. Martin Luther warned,
almost five centuries ago:
“I am much afraid that schools will prove to be wide gates to
hell, unless they diligently labour in explaining the Holy
Scriptures, engraving them in the hearts of youth.
Wide Gates to Hell
I advise no one to place his child where the
Scriptures do not reign paramount.
Every institution in which men are not
constantly occupied with the Word of God
must become corrupt.”
Education
needs to be
controlled by
parents,
aided by the
church,
but
independent
of the state
(Deuteronomy
6:7;
Hosea 4:6;
Matthew 28:19;
Ephesians 6:4;
Colossians 2:8).
One cannot entrust any state with the moulding of the minds
of the future voters. The control of education should be in
the hands of parents and the content of education must
be moral, character developing and Bible based.
Deuteronomy 6:1-9

commandment, and
these are the statutes
and judgments which
the LORD your God
has commanded to
teach you, that you
may observe them in
the land which you
are crossing over to
possess,
2that you may fear
the LORD your
God, to keep all
His statutes and
His
commandments
which I command
you, you and your
son and your
grandson, all the
days of your life,
and that your days
may be prolonged.
3Therefore hear, O Israel, and be careful to
observe it, that it may be well with you, and that
you may multiply greatly as the LORD God of your
fathers has promised you …in a land flowing with
milk and honey.
4"Hear, O Israel:
The LORD our
God, the LORD
is One! 5You
shall love the
LORD your God
with all your
heart, with all
your soul, and
with all your
strength.
6"And these
words which I
command you
today shall be
in your heart.
7You shall teach
them diligently to
your children,
and shall talk of
them when you
sit in your house,
when you walk
by the way, when
you lie down,
and when you
rise up.
8You shall bind them
as a sign on your
hand, and they shall
be as frontlets
between your eyes.
9You shall write them on the doorposts of
your house and on your gates.”
We also need to ensure that our children are not being
indoctrinated by state schools and state textbooks.
We need education which teaches us
how to think critically,
not state-mandated indoctrination which teaches one what to
think.
