Who is Poe? Edgar Allen Poe was the son of two traveling actors born in Boston, Massachusetts. From the start Poe’s life was rough. By the time he was 3 years old both of his parents had passed away. Poe’s Life in Richmond, VA After his parents death, Poe was taken in by a wealthy tobacco merchant, John Allan and his wife Frances Valentine Allan. From a young age Poe had an niche for writing. His inspiration came from his role model who was a British poet Lord Byron. By the age of thirteen Poe had enough writing to publish a book. http://www.freewebs.com/gothi-kaplus/
Poe’s College Years Poe moved out of Richmond and moved on to college at the University of Virginia. There he excelled in his classes but fell into a considerable debt.  Since he was so far in debt he took up gambling to try to pay his bills. He dropped out of college after the first semester and moved to Baltimore where his late father lived. http://insiderspassport.com
Middle Life In Baltimore Poe sought out his father’s family. He found his aunt Maria Clemm, who became a mother-figure in his life. At the age of 27 Poe married Virginia Clemm (his cousin) who was only fourteen-years-old. In 1842 Virginia was diagnosed with tuberculosis which had already killed his mother, father, brother, and foster mother. Virginia died and 1847 at the age of 24.
A Dream Within A Dream This poem reflects upon his life at the time in a sense he is over-reacting about his confusion in watching everything important in his life slip away. wowwiki.com
The Haunted Palace This poem is an allegory about a king who is afraid of the evil forces that threaten him and his palace. Poe was definitely one of sick and twisted thoughts which probably led to the creation of this poem. hexameta.com
The Raven Published in 1845, The Raven is probably one of Poe’s most known works of art. It is about a man who we can assume is drunk going crazy in his library. He thinks that he hears a raven talking to him during this time along with a number of other insane happenings that don’t really make sense.
