• building on CELEBRATE, CALIBRATE and
MELT projects

– research semantic interoperability of curricular
descriptions of learning resources
– develop open source collaborative knowledge
building environment and authoring templates
– validation with up to 100 schools in seven
countries

• Melt Project (2006-2008)
– There’s a need for metadata that more accurately
reflects how LOs are actually used in different
learning contexts
– Some MELT content enriched with metadata by
expert or trained indexers
– Enrichment of any/all of MELT content by teachers
and learners who have used the content
• ‘social tagging’ and ‘folksonomies’
– Enrichment with automatically generated metadata

• Two initiatives based on the same philosophy and
approach
• Content exchange, social tagging and social
networking in the LRE support collaborative
eTwinning activities
• We want to provide early access to the beta version
of the MELT LRE portal to eTwinning teachers
– to enable eTwinning schools to exploit the LRE
resources as quickly as possible
– to fine tune the LRE features and functionalities to
the specific needs of eTwinning teachers
